I'm thinking about getting a .223, any recommendations?

I would mostly use it for targets or possibly some occasional hunting.

What would be a good price/performance choice?

For ready-made guns see http://www.bushmaster.com/ and http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&categoryId=33803&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15701&top_category=15701

To see about making your own see http://www.model1sales.com/ , http://www.pkfirearms.com/store/start.aspx and http://jtdistributing.net/store/kits_all.html

These are just some places to give you ideas. Once you have some idea what you want, I'd go down to Hero Gear and talk to Joe, Dan, and the boyz.... and the dog... that dog is a trip!

I would probably go with another bolt gun myself, and that would be another Savage.

I shoot a Savage Striker pistol in a 223. It has the stainless barrel with muzzle brake and I have a 3-9 x 40mm scope on it. Just plain fun for varmits. Too bad that Savage quti making them.

how about a Savage 10FP? I believe you can get it in .223. Its got a heavy "tactical" barrel and the Accutrigger.

What are you hunting?

I don’t consider .223 a good hunting round; but some do.

With that being said if you want an AR type weapon; check out DPMS. They have both .223 and .308.

I have a .308 Panther and have been happy with it.

If I wanted a .223 target rifle it would be a Remington 700 heavy barrel.

My advice is to get an upper chambered in 5.56, and build it yourself. There are step by step videos online to help.

the only recommendation is that you hurry. If Obama wins the election, we're in deep doo doo and you may well actually USE that weapon to defend yourself against a government bent on tyranny.

just an observation..but Obama plays African politics. call me a nutjob, but I think you may need to expedite that AR and as much ammo as you can afford.

O.K., You Are A NuTjOb. Welcome to the club! I could use some company.

Seriously, an AR or 12 and lots of ammo. Also, on the off chance obama loses.......
