Maybe they got the wrong address........or info. It happens or the guy would be in jail right now. Breaking down a door has been known to get you shot.

aren't LEOs supposed to announce themselves when entering a persons home?

There is such a thing as a "no knock" warrant that permit the LEO's to smash in with no warning.  They are typically reserved for apprehending violent felons where they expect armed resistance and having the element of surprise can be advantageous.  But, there's also plenty of instances where such warrants were served on the wrong people (wrong address, etc.) and innocent people got hurt or killed in the ensuing confusion.

Didn't have enough evidence for an arrest, but did for a "no-knock" warrant. Something's fishy.

Wonder if he was set up. "SWATted"? Edited by Clod Stomper

I'm guessing that the small town sheriff was pissed about the fake bomb threat and got a bit over zealous in his ensuing "investigation"(due process be damned), and it nearly killed him.  With no warrant, what the sheriff did is functionally B&E.  Knowing that, they let the guy go with the promise that they'll fix what they broke and hope he doesn't sue.

Sounds like he might have got shot whether he had a warrant or not. I think I would have got him on the phone and ordered him outside. I would rather be standing outside the house than inside it if they think he may detonate a bomb.

Hope that clown gets a long stay in jail for that stupid move. He's lucky no one got killed!

They need to send a clear message to future Swatters, do it and get caught, you will go to jail for a long time! Edited by JohnC

Agreed!

He has the face of a sarcastic lil pr!ck that would think "This will teach him not to mess with me, I'm too smart!". Those smirks just beg to be knocked off people's faces.

I'm surprised nobody in the home got killed either. How do you confirm the target is in the house, kick in the door, clear part of the house, get shot at, and NOT return fire. At that point they don't know they have the wrong man and he's just shot someone. WOW!

Probably best they didn't... or they'd likely be facing murder charges...  no warrant, guy wasn't guilty of a crime...  they basically committed a but load of major crimes...  the real question is where are the charges against the officers?  They clearly violated the law, terrorized this man and his wife and they haven't been taken into custody?

They probably told him that he should consider himself lucky that he and his family weren't killed, but we'll be nice and drop the charges.

Here's an example of swatting

This guy was streaming his game live (anyone can tune in to watch it) and apparently one of those people called in a fake threat causing a raid just because they think it'd be funny to see.

Heck no. They need to send the clear message: "We're not going to go bursting into peoples houses on questionable anonymous tips."

And then catch em and send them to jail for a long time.
