Magpul is getting into the Glock magazine business

I wonder what the motivation is here?

Love Glocks or hate them, their factory mags are some of the finest ever made, and their widely available. I guess people will buy them just because they say Magpul and there are tons of Glocks out there?

I'd love to see them follow up on the MagEx extension for Glock 21 mags with an honest to goodness hi-cap .45 mag. That's about all that's keeping me from building a .45 caliber brother for my 9mm AR.

Likely to get a piece of the market share.

And the fact these will be roughly 1/2 the price? ( I'm guessing, I haven't priced glock mags in a while)

And hopefully a starting point for an entire line of mags.

And yes there will be people buy them simply because it says Magpul on it

$$$$

Plastic is cheap and Magpul has built such a name for themselves they will sell like hotcakes.  I bet the things will be $30/each for a while.

I'll wait for the steel-lined version.  Should be out just after the steel reinforced AK mags they been promising for a couple of years.

Didn't they just release those?  Maybe I'm thinking of the new AK furniture they're doing that has a metal liner.

No.  Apparently it's vaporware.  Should have been out a long time ago.  Regardless, the all plastic ones work just fine but since I base my operational kit on what the internet says I'll certainly perish in a tactical situation.

For me, it's price. As long as it's cheap, reliable, and not ugly, I'll buy it!

Depending on the source, I have seen Factory Glock mags just this last few weeks from 19/20 to22/23 per mag. So if Magpul could and would enter the market at a price point around 10 each for a quality mag, I believe it would look like the AR mag sales of the past, at least for a while.

I just can't justify it over $22 factory mags from GT's. I loaded up on used Glock 22 mags at $12 a while back and use them for 9mm shooting also.

At $10 less per mag, it's pretty easy to figure out the motivation of most buyers.

I got a couple of these earlier this week.  I put my first 100 rounds through one on monday night.  Springs are very tight, and the last two rounds required the use of a mag loading tool (and I never have to use a mag loading tool).  The ONLY issue I had is the first round in a fully loaded mag nose-dived into the feed ramp and wouldn't fully go into battery when I used the slide stop lever.  They never failed to work using a proper two handed charging technique.

Magpul just posted on their FB page that they are aware of the failure to feed issue and are replacing the magazine body for everyone who has purchased a bad one. If you bought from Magpul, Brownells, or MidwayUSA, they're sending them out automatically. I experienced the same issue with mine, so it's great to see that they're being so proactive in correcting the misstep.

Just now got my recall notice email from Midway.  As stated above, just glad that I purchased through a company willing to do all of the work for me.

Dear %%FIRSTNAME%%,
Customer satisfaction is our #1 goal and we pride ourselves on providing you with quality products at great prices. Unfortunately, Magpul Industries has discovered an issue with their Glock 17 PMag (GL9) which you recently purchased from us. Here are the details from Magpul:

After initial release of the Glock 17 PMag (GL9) a few days ago we started seeing random issues of failure to feed with the new magazine in other Glock models primarily the Glock 19 and 26. Of all the challenges of building a Glock magazine with single new composite, issues like drop free, impact strength and feed lip retention were foremost on our mind. The failure to feed came as a bit of a surprise to us and we immediately headed out to the range to investigate.

In short order we found the problem. Without getting into technical details, some small, but critical geometry changes did not make it into the initial production molds. We should have caught this but no failures showed up on our factory guns during live fire testing and flaws in our internal processes of checks/balances did not flag the oversight as it should.

So this is what we are going to do about it.

Molds are being updated with the correct geometry as we speak and a replacement magazine body with the correct geometry should be available by May 4th 2015. These will be date coded 5/15 and later and will replace any magazine bodies in service of earlier manufacture. Just use your existing spring, follower, and floor plate with the new body.

Since you purchased your magazines from MidwayUSA, you do not need to do anything, replacement magazine bodies for the magazines (1 for 1) ordered will be shipped to you automatically.

In short, we are updating ALL of the affected magazines released as quickly as we possibly can.

Richard Fitzpatrick
President/CEO -Magpul Industries Corp

As noted above, no direct action is needed from you as the replacement magazine bodies will be shipped as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Customer Service

It is cool of them to be proactive, but maybe they've should have tested some? Seems strange from a company with such a good reputation in reliability.

Everyplace online that has had them shows about 15 clams.

Then again, Glock mags are only 20, so ....
