La Vergne named as the best place

Okay, where's the punch line? I've lived in LaVergne for 23 years and my son was born and raised here. We have the highest water bills in the south, a ton of section 8 houses that have been abandoned, that or more that are empty from foreclosure and crime after crime that never shows up on the news. Not to mention the sign at the city limit should read "WELCOME TO LAVERGNE, THE NOLENSVILLE ROAD OF RUTHERFORD COUNTY"

I live in Lake Forest, and I don't think it's so bad since the economy tanked and the gang-bangers moved out. I still want to move out for other reasons - I didn't want to live here anyways, but my wife made the command decision - and the resale values still suck too bad to do so. I have great neighbors even though I live right on the edge of the "border" between nice homes and crakerjack boxes.

Yeah La Vergne is real nice. Maybe some of the Yankees in MJ will move over to La Vergne because it's better. This rating is suspect because even Smyrnanians hate on La Vergne.

Maybe native officials in the surrounding areas got together for a top secret planning meeting and said "what are we gonna do with this major influx of transplants?" Some dude in the back stood up and said "I got it!!! Let's manufacture info that states La Vergne is good and they'll all start to go there!" Edited by JWC

I used to hook up with a cougar in LaVergne. :D

Wasn't the mayors wife was it?  It's been a few years so I don't know which mayor, but I knew a guy who used to have an affair with the mayors wife.  I never asked about the details.

The mayor is a woman she is really nice lady trys to do a lot for the town she caught some bad press at frist the people that were there before this administration had not raised water and sewer rates in a long time so one of her frist things was to raise rates they went up 150% over two years i went from 25 dollars a month too 75 it was a big surprise that frist bill

The mayor was a lady and yes she is a super great person. She blamed the outrageous increase on the previous administration. The problem is she was part of that previous administration and the majority of them were with her when she became mayor and they raised the rate.

I lived in LaVergne from 1998-2001, in Lake Forest on Hollandale Road. Never had any problems with crime or anything else significant, and generally liked the area for what it was: a reasonably quiet cheap place to live with lower housing costs and rental rates than most other areas around it, and with quick access to better places to work, shop and eat such as Mount Juliet, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Hermitage, etc.

Our worst experience there was with all the people that constantly came door to door selling all manner of things, ostensibly for charities or fund raising or small business or schools, but they were always poorly dressed and seemed to be uneducated, appeared to be from bad areas of town, and most of what they were selling was just candy or simple things that you could get at Walmart or the dollar store. They only wanted cash, and when asked for ID or documentation on their cause they could not provide it. Always turned them away but it got old constantly having riff raff walking around your house and pounding on the door despite the No Soliciting sign and chain that we put across the porch entrance. This happened about twice a month, sometimes more.

Other than that we enjoyed the area and moved away as soon as we could afford more land and privacy in another area. Our house in LaVergne was maybe worth $125K at the time, 3 bed 2 bath 1200 sq ft with single garage, small lot approximately 100'x 200'. We moved to Arrington but had to pay $210K for 3400 sq ft on 5 acres, so we figured that you get what you pay for,and we enjoyed both locations.

I'm not a fan of the recent mayor, personally. I'v lived in Lake Forrest almost 6 yrs now. It was MUCH better when I moved in than it is today.

My water bill nearly tripled. We went from fancy police cars to fancy police SUVs. I worked next to the place that equipped them. They were NOT cheap. We lost several really good police officers that I liked during her administration. We built sidewalks and walking bridges to nowhere. Overall, I'm just saying we are NOT better off than before she was elected.

For me, the most annoying thing done under her administration was the intersection of Nir Shreibman and Murfreesboro. What kind of moron removes a turn lane onto a main road that goes towards the city? They should have either used eminent domain to take the land from KFC for a turn lane, or made the left lane the straight/left turn lane. Traffic is always messed up in the morning with A-holes who think that they are more important than anyone else on the road and who either cut in line, go through the parking lots, or race ahead of people from the left turn lane to go straight. The police do NOTHING to prevent the A-holes from being A-holes either.

Anyone ever hear what happened with the plan to put a Walmart in La Vergne? I heard it was going in across from Fergus Rd. then I heard it was going in on the corner of Fergus Rd, now I'm hearing they're putting it on Sam Ridley in Smyrna.

While I can't in all fairness blame her for poor traffic planning, I can't pass up the opportunity to join you in whining about this moronic intersection. The fact that A-holes have an empty left turn lane to use at all should be evidence enough that we don't need one. I'm with you, we needed a dedicated right tun off of Nri Shreibman ADDED to the intersection. It's way worse than it was before now. And the mayor has the nerve to send cops to the KFC parking lot to police traffic trying to cheat the intersection after they created the problem. I almost don't blame the A-holes that go thru the KFC lot, but I hate the ones that go straight thru the left turn lane or bully their way into traffic at the intersection. Then you look at the other side of the street, coming from I-24...they made the middle lane a left turn OR straight lane. That makes no sense either!

Back years ago I lived in Antioch long before it became gangland and I made many trips to La-Vergne and It was a nice quiet town. Even considered moving there once. Don't want to offend anyone living in Antioch or La-Vergne today but from folks I know that have just moved from both areas and they have made the statements to the fact that La Vergne is nothing more than South Antioch these days and no of them would ever move back to either. That is just what I have been told. Don't know it to be fact.........jmho

Here is a note our neighborhood watch page got from a new neighbor that moved into my neighborhood this year from Antioch.

 - I'm thankful for nosy neighbors, to a point.  After living in Antioch for 8 years and barely knowing people further than three units from me - and getting broken into twice, attempted third, back window of my car shot out on Halloween, a random bb through a window in my bedroom at midnight, random kids on the sidewalk til 3am, loud music at the gate for all hours, etc.... I'm thankful that neighbors care enough to be cautious about things.  Better to be asked and rebuffed than to not ask and then say, "I shoulda..."....
