Advice on a 22LR Can

Recommended Posts

Walked into a local gun shop today and was looking to get a Silencer Co Sparrow.  The guy behind the counter showed me and let me shoot a PTP Tactical 19D can.  I shot 5 rounds and it did what it was supposed to do.  Although the point of impact was about 4 inches low at 10 yards.  Not sure if this is normal being that I'm green when it comes to suppressors.  They didn't have a demo for the sparrow so I didn't have anything to compare it to.

The main difference between the two besides the design that I could tell was the price (Sparrow uses a monolithic baffle and the 19D had interlocking cones).  White SS Sparrow was about $425 and the 19D was going for $168.

If there wasn't a $200 tax stamp (that I absolutely loathe paying) and months of waiting involved I would have picked up the cheaper 19D without hesitation and figured it out myself.

A google search on PTP Tactical didn't turn up much besides their webpage.  Does anyone have any experience with these guys?  I do know they are based out of Kentucky and probably is a vet due to the naming of the can.  Would anyone take the chance on this?

I have 8 22 suppressors. Hands down to my ears and clean ability are the Silencerco Spectre and Sparrow. Followed by the AAC elements 1 and 2. Would not buy another Mite or Liberty essence. My other two are integral. You wait too long to chance an unknown. These are lifetime purchases for most of us.

Rex, I tried to get you to get a 22 last year ;o)

Concur with gr8smiles.  Sparrow gets the nod for cleaning, haven't hit anything yet better.  I can beat that price quite a bit though.  Just got a couple Sparrows in yesterday.  I also have a few Element IIs and er, well...maybe a Mite or two ;o).

I know the guys give the mite a hard time but it's a great little can for the space that it fills, at least at what I sell em for.. to be multi caliber at that.  Yes it's a bear to clean if you don't stay on top of it but for what I can sell them for as a plinker I like them a lot.  True, I wouldn't pay retail for one over the others by any haul.

The only negative with the Sparrow is it will usually have a bit of a first round pop.  But hands down gets the vote for cleaning.  The Element II is a very nice suppressor too if you like the K baffles... Silencerco dropped the prices on the Sparrows last year (ACC dropped the E2 a bit as well), been a lot of price shifts so competition is working well for us all.

I'd never seen the PTP Tactical, none of my primary distributors carry it but I looked on their website and it looks like a nice can. Given the price on the surface looks like a pretty darn good deal.  I'll have to check with them and see if I can get any demos and let you guys know.  The Mite has been my bottom end entry for quite a while but if their quality control and delivery is where it should be the scout looks like a much better product.

Seriously, for 168 for that can, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I have a Mite right now and its at Gemtech getting the core swapped out.

I have a Warlock II in jail.  I wish I had gone with the Spectre instead of the Warlock though.  I need to stop buying aluminum rimfire cans.
