Youth 20 Guage

I got together with some friends who were nice enough to give my son an intro to clay target shooting over the weekend.  It's something he's been asking for for a long time and not being a shotgun shooter myself I wasn't able to show him.

After this brief intro he's more excited then ever so the next step is to look into getting him a shotgun.

He's a small framed 12 year old, (about 70 or 75 pounds) at about 4'6" or so.  The shotgun that he used over the weekend is a Charles Daly 20 Guage and although it knocked him around pretty good at first he started doing a little better at handling it after several practice rounds.

At this point I may look at getting him something similar to the Charles Daly that he shot over the weekend but was hoping someone might have some recommendations for other Shotguns to look at that might work for him.  Something that is reliable, accurate and does a good job of absorbing the recoil.

As much as I'd like to just "buy the best" prices is a big concern here, probably looking in the range of a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for any info

Eric

You can get a Remington 870 in a youth model.  I bought one for my wife, who ain't too tall.  It's about an inch shorter in length-of-pull.

That's what my kids have; 20 gauge to be precise. While a gas operated automatic will help mitigate recoil. neither of my boys seemed to object to the recoil of the 870.
