Springfield 1911 MC Operator...my first take on a fighting 1911.

Finally got my MC Operator. This is my first real attempt at building a 1911 that is duty worthy. Added A Nighthawk one piece magwell/mainspring housing and VZ Alien grips. The magwell fits surprisingly flush. Still not sure on future modifications (suggestions welcomed) maybe a Wilson Combat Bulletproof extractor. Can't wait to shoot it. My best friend has an MC Operator and nearly convinced me to go the same route, as evidenced by my post around Christmas saying I had clearance to buy one.  I honestly cannot give you any justification for *not* going with the MC Operator other than the fact that deep down I really wanted to scratch the Colt itch.  You can find a thread I did on his MC Operator back a few years ago when we re-finished the slide in a matte silver color, here:  http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/15660-refinish-job-springfield-marine-corps-operator/
 
One thing I would at least research doing, were I you, would be to remove the goofy ILS lock.  It's a pretty easy modification and would ensure that there's no way Murphy's Law could strike and render your firearm un-fireable.
 
It's interesting to note that Springfield apparently has a new version of the MC Operator coming out this year.  I noticed these pics on another forum yesterday actually:
 

 
 

 
 
The major differences that I notice are G10 VZ "Slant" style grips rather than the ridiculously bulky Pachmayer grips from the previous version, and the addition of some rather interesting checkering on the front strap and what looks like matching checkering on the main spring housing.
 
Another thing that most folks aren't aware of is that Springfield released in 2014 the "Long Beach Operator" which is essentially the MC Operator but in all black Armory Kote finish, a mag well, and different grips.  I rather like it.

All this making me want another 1911, and I really, really don't need another, nor need to spend on another.

 

But all this talk of Springers makes me think about a 5" MC Operator. I have a 4" LW Loaded Operator and it is one of the best 1911s I own.

 

But after all my years of not wanting a 5", I seem to have accumulated several.

 

If I survive tax season and the property taxes...I believe another is in the mix.

If I pick up another 1911 this year it will very likely be a Dan Wesson Specialist, in black of course.  They're about $400-500 more than the Colt (on average) but they have everything done to them that I would want in a carry 1911.  Check them out some time.

I had a CCO for a while. For some unknown reason...it didn't make me a better shooter like I thought it would. lol

 

Seriously, the DW was a fine pistol, much better than needed. I traded it to member here and really haven't regretted it.

 

I can't really give an answer for why it didn't suit me, but I just didn't get to the point I couldn't let it go. I guess I'm more of a Sig and Springer guy.

Thanks everyone. Got to shoot a bunch the past week. I like the gun even more now. Ate about 250 rounds of duty and frangible ammo with out a hiccup. I was really surprised that it cycled the frangible stuff given how light and dirty it is. This gun makes me look like a better shooter. I have a lot of rounds (10k plus) through my Glock 35 and I was already faster and tighter on follow up shots. It really makes me think of using it as my primary. Still a debate. Shot about 250 through my LW Champion Operator as well without an issue. So I have about 500 through the LW now and it has replaced my Glock 19 for carry (Gasp!). Never thought I would say that last part. They are both just amazingly comfortable guns to shoot fast and accurate. For some reason I prefer the recoil of the .45 to the .40, I guess less snap and it just feels soft. I thought the safety might give me issues transitioning from Glock. But I haven't had any issues and I seem to flick it off without any real conscious effort. The only other change I might make it to switch to a wider rear notch without tritium as I like all black rear sight and more light around front sight post.

I posted on another topic earlier that I really want to purchase a 1911. I only recently got into collecting/buying guns (about a year and a half ago) and I have never owned a 1911. 

 

Springfield has quickly become one of my favorite manufactures and I find myself drooling over the Operator. Sadly, I am sure it is well outside of my price range.
