Self Corroding Ammo??

Recommended Posts

Ok, I was in waiting room at Doctors office yesterday and i over heard a couple guys talking about Obama is working on trying to have ammo made so that is will self corrode while sitting on the self in 2 years or less. Has anyone heard anything else about this or do you think it can be done? They seemed pretty sure by the way they were talking that is what he is trying to do. They said since he knows he can't get the guns he will get the ammo...............Just wondering if any once else has heard anything about it?............................. :ugh: :ugh: :squint:

Been a rumor for years. Whether it be the primer or the powder, it is physically possible but could you imagine the uproar? I just don't think this will happen. Not unless somehow forced through unexpectedly for "environmental reasons".

I have heard that the ammunition using lead free primers, such as Winchester WinClean, etc will become extremely unreliable and the primers will go bad after 1-2years. I have not tested it but that stuff isn't really widely available at least where I am. I believe it's primarily an indoor training ammunition that would be used up quickly. Plus the lead free primer ammo was higher prices where I was.

In 2009 I was told ammunition made after June would expire in 6 months. I was told this by a dealer selling CCI Stingers for $27 a box and Federal Lightnings for $6 a box. I came by the table a little while later and the piles were significantly smaller so he was selling them. The dealer said Obama changed the laws and all ammunition is useless after 6 months.

There were similar rumors around the time of the 1994 ban.  I was listening when a guy mentioned it in front of chemical engineer, who went, well, ballistic.  I didn't really understand all the technical reasons, but engineer explained all the problems with ammo that was designed to last a short time.  What stuck with me was that if ammo was designed to only last two years, some percentage would fail after a year and some percentage would last for several years.

Maybe we should promote the rumor that the government started with .22LR and it's all going to expire by the end of the 2015.  Maybe the hoarders would be the ones panicking..
