81% of first time heroin users were addicted to prescription drugs"
That's bad.....

Heroin was touted as a cure for opium and morphine addiction early on. By 1898 there were any number of patent medicines promising to cure morphine addiction, liberally laced with smack. "Order next weeks treatment now!" Including by Bayer.

And they were right, it worked great.

Yep, about January 2014 we started getting Mexican heroin routinely again. All users were former pain pill addicts mostly oxycodone/oxycontin. The Mexican cartels have flooded it up and it isn't that expensive compared to a oxymorphone was going for between $50-$75 a pill. That $50 will buy you a longer high of heroin. But there seems to be more overdoses on it that nobody hears about. These clowns haven't learned they can't shoot a whole bunch of that stuff without taking a permanent nap. Even better was the ones claiming to be rehabilitated but hooked on suboxone/subutex replace one drug for another thanks to a doctor, like a patch for opiate addiction.

Heroin has been popping in the music community again because it's been so cheap. This town has always been on coke, but it sure is bizarre to hear about people using heroin. It seems like something you'd see on "Behind the Music" not something a friend is doing,

I'm not sure I'd be spreading where I was getting my Heroin around on social sights. ;)

It's amazing what an addict will do for a fix.  I saw one of my very best friends get hooked on Oxycontin, it ruined his life.  It wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that he was using heroin because it was cheaper.  An addict will steal and sell every precious family heirloom in their parents house and pawn it for nothing just to get high once, and they think nothing of it.  They would thoughtlessly sell their soul to the devil for one more hit if they could.  I say let em at it, problem will solve itself, I've been around more than enough addicts in my life, they rarely get better.

For 15 years I have seen first hand what someone's addiction can do a family. My brother has used everything over the years but one constant has been opiates. He has torn our family apart with his drug use and done some pretty horrific things along the way. A I sit here I will probably never talk to him, my father, my mother as well as about 1/2 of my relatives over what has happened. They have all suffered but they also have karma to thank because of what they all have done.

Not surprised at all, addiction is nothing more than a lack of willpower.
