How did you get em to quit stinking or did you just let it ride?

Ours has gotten skunked twice. Google a mixture of dawn dish detergent, baking soda, and peroxide. That's the only thing that works. It will bleach the dog's fur slightly and you should wear gloves.

Really? I'm pretty sure every dog I've ever had had a run in with a skunk. I'm also pretty sure all of them were wise enough to give skunks a very wide berth after that.

Got some bright dogs that have to be sprayed two or three times to learn their lesson...

I had a dog like that as a kid. If it moved, he chased it. If he caught it, he whined cause he didn't know what to do with it. Skwirrls were his favorite, cause they would go to the trees.

Really.

And yes, a bath with the detergent/baking soda/peroxide, followed by a bath with dog shampoo... repeat as necessary.   Last time it was 2 cycles on day 1 and 1 cycle on day 2.

I lost my 14 year old Shelty a few months back. He was my first child and we miss him dearly...

We're just now getting to the point where we would be comfortable with another dog. I don't really want another shelty as I think it would cheapen his memory. Looking into a Welsh Corgi but they are hard to come by and expensive if you do. Rescue versions seem to be mostly mixed which is fine but they look less corgi and more like the other breed.

Get a mutt, They seem to make the best all around pets and seems they require less Vet visits. Something with some type of hound mix I have found to be the best..........jmho

The fact you suggest gloves seems to me like that is a pretty nasty compound, that and YOU yourself probably don't wanna stink of skunk either. :P

It is pretty nasty, anything more than brief exposure will burn your hands... AMHIK...  Don't get it in the dog's eyes.

Well.. we did it.. again.. This is Odie, he is our latest rescue pup! Adopted him from the local shelter 3 weeks ago, we had to wait a week to have him neutered so he's only been with us for 2 weeks. This was taken the day we got him home. They said that he was an owner surrender and they were told it was Lab/Pit mix. He looking nothing like a lab, I do see the possibility of Pit and I am thinking some sort of hound mixed in. His ears are absolutely ridiculous! They are starting to stand straight up now. Which is pretty hilarious.

He only has the sweater on because he was 9.6 lbs and super skinny. Way to skinny, so he needed to stay warm. He has since been fattened up and gained about 10 lbs. He is happy now!

Here are some snow pictures too, this is the gang out romping around, I can share it, now that it's gone. Thank god.551508_10153059959300953_832983668361293
