I just want to check these 3 small .22LR semi-auto pistols out before I really try and find one for me.  If you are anywhere near the Clarksville area and have any of these three and don't mind me taking a close look at it/them let me know:

1) Sterling

2) Wilkinson Sherry

3)  Steel City or Desert Industries - Double Deuce

I own a Sterling. I inherited it from my late uncle. It seems to be a well made little gun and shoots straight. I've seen them go for around $200 give or take depending on condition.

Good luck finding #2 and #3, and I'm sure they will be pricey if you do find them. I have #1, but alas, as we have discussed before, we live too far apart.

The only one of these I have personally handled was a Wilkinson Sherry (it came in as a repair request), no actual time with either of the others.  This Wilkinson was a very well made pistol that was suffering from failure to feed - caused by dry-firing and creating a burr on the rear of the chamber.  Judicious application of a chamber swage cured the problem.  The pistol was reliable to feed up and function with a variety of ammo after the correction was completed.  Sadly, that line is discontinued.  All of the remaining parts are in the hands of a single shop that bought ALL of the Wilkinson remaining stock.  Take caution here as any needed parts may not be available if you have a failure with a Wilkinson.  Good luck with your search.

Stumpy.

I've seen #1 and #2 for sale on GB and Armslist and on Gunwonersclub but I don't have burning hunger to pay extra any longer for shipping and the trials that entails at times.  My experience with online gun buying has been the seller is adamant about rapid payment but in the two instances I did order online, shipment was done at at a very casual, unhurried, slow pace.  Gun guys can be a funny bunch.

Agreed. As a whole and even as individuals, all of us in the gun community can be pretty loose-goosey at times.

I've bought from GunBroker twice in the last5/6 years, and just did a deal from Armslist.

So far, I've had no problems.

I've bought a lot of Mouseguns on GB over the last five years, and most of the time the sellers I have dealt with have been great to deal with. I look at a sellers reputation and make sure that I'm comfortable with their terms. If they are too one-sided in their business practices, I just don't bother with them. Also, if they don't accept C&R and they are selling older guns, I don't bother with them. That's a sure sign that they will be a PITA to deal with anyway. Finally, you have to have an FFL dealer that is easy to work with and responds to the selling FFL promptly.
