Need custom grips

Recommended Posts

Can anyone on here make some custom grips for a production knife? A Spyderco Manbug, in particular? I know it's a very small knife and would be tedious to work with. Or know anybody or a company that does?

I'm looking to buy one to put on my keychain but I do not care for any of the grips available at all.

Titanium would be highly preferred but would also take aluminum or stainless steel. I also would not turn down some nice wood panels if possible to make them for this small of a knife.

Thanks

I don't know that those FRN "scales" are removable.  Most of Spyderco's FRN offering is integral to the frame.

Have you looked at the Dragonfly?  I've been running one of the G-10 models for about a year and a half.  It fits perfectly in that otherwise useless watch pocket in a pair of 501s.  The scales are removable - though the G-10 scales are pretty nice.  Plus, it's a VG-10 blade, so it's pretty durable.  They may make a manbug with the removable G-10 scales, too.

If you get up to Nashville anytime soon, you're welcome to swing by and check the Dragonfly out.

I was looking at the standard version which has G10 scales, not the Lightweight version with FRN scales.

The more I think about it, the more I want some nice wood handles for it.

This is just for a backup blade on the keychain. I have a Mini griptilian I clip carry now, and I'm looking at getting some sort of larger ZT knife to replace it with. The mini grip is just a bit too big for the keychain.

I may just get the G10 model until I can find some nicer grips for it but I'd rather have some thing that looks nicer than the G10 and is also a custom touch. The Manbug also has a VG-10 blade.

If you wasn't on the other side of the world, you could come by my shop and we could make you a set. I have made many custom wood grips for knives and guns. I offer is out there if you ever get near Clinton

That's a heck of a lot better than the only other alternative I have come up with yet, which is a company out of Germany, literally on the other side of the world lol
