truck thermostat question (stuck open)

I am taking the advise and not putting this off any longer then needed.

 

I am getting it fixed this Friday.

I can do small job, but I looked at the top of the engine and well looks like a bit more has to come off to make room to get to it then I want to do.  I depend on my truck so I am going to pay to have this job done and done right. 

 

Plus they will drop me off at work and pick, me up after.  So I won't miss any work, I won't be out in this blasted cold trying to do something that I am not good at.  So this time, paying for the repair seems right.

 

I have done this job on older truck, no problem.

well you are right if you mean between 3 dollars and 400.

 

However 135 is the price I was given.  I find that a little high, but my ass won't be out in the cold weather doing it.  (I don't have a garage to work in yet)

I've replaced two myself. My Dodge Ram was simple. The BMW was a nightmare. Both were well worth the repair, though.

Ford Sport Trac.  turned out to be 142, they forgot to quote gaskets.

After I got it back, didn't have to drive long and it was up to good normal temp, drove it round town for about 30 minutes went back to work, checked for leaks, didn't see any.  Feel good about the repair.

yea, that was the revised price they gave me.

Cool. One thing is you dont want to replace one of those in a focus. Damn thing is part of a whole assembly. Costs around $160 for parts alone.

They told me something about it being a 2 piece part, a housing and the actually thermostat.  Since there was no issue with my housing just the thermostat I was lucky.
