Paint Remover

I discovered that the FDE coating in a cheap handguard I have is actually paint. When I got some carb cleaner on it, it started peeling off. The good news is that it's anodized Al underneath.

The carb cleaner isn't efficient enough to clean the whole thing. What's a good all-around paint remover? I don't know what kind of paint it is.

No, I don't have a sandblaster. Wish I did.

If I recall correctly, when I stripped a rifle of mine that was painted in a previous life, I used acetone.  I think it was spray painted (due the bad running of the paint), and the acetone took it right off.  Just be careful of any plastics nearby and wear gloves.

Wear gloves. Acetone is directly absorbed into your skin. Small doses and infrequent contact are probably not a health hazard, but an ounce of prevention...

Picked up some Zip Strip at Ace. Haven't got to use it yet. I need to today.

Peejman, thanks for the offer. If I don't get it done soon, I may take you up on that.
