Anyone still have their turntable?

Just curious if there's any audiophile shops still around that can service these turntables?  I've read about using protractors, shims, and special alignment tools whenever you replace the cartridge. Something like the Revox looks like fun to align.  With some of these units over 30 years old, It'll be tough to find schematics & owners manuals.

I just picked up a 1967 Tony Bennett "Greatest Hits III" LP - it is a radio station release.  stunning.

 

I remember back in the 90s when Masterfonics was looking to sell their lathe.  If it were me, I would've kept it, but then again, I would've had to pay some lowly interns (or not!) to move it around and out of the way for years and years and years ... which is probably what they had done and just finally got tired of it.

 

I will say that, with a crawl space/elevated floor, we have to walk softly when the Turntable is playing... and not everyone is "enthusiastic" about that.  :)

I know of a guy in Hermitage that restores speakers but other audio equipment I'm not sure about.

If you're down south around Ringgold GA there is a Hardware Feed Store/antique shop where there is a booth full of vintage audio stuff that would make any incense smelling pothead think he was in heaven.
The guy that runs that booth may also do repairs. I think I have a card here somewhere.

They will service your turntable.  West Nashville.  Nice folks.  Alison's Record Shop (attached) is my new "most dangerous" place to stop.

 

Caveat:  There is a gun buster on either the HiFi shop or the record shop -don't remember which.  When I get to know them a little better, I will talk to them about it.

Hifi is AWESOME.... Specially lee.  Too bad the dash kit for my car was $200 bucks but everything else was great. (and before you say it, early RX8's had the climate control unit work with the radio, so I had to get an expensive adapter to make it work).

So if I buy a turntable that needs tweaking and peaking, it looks like I'm in for a drive.  I've got my eyes on a Technics SL-6 (a programmable turntable... like an early version of the cd player)

Ringgold wouldn't be a bad trip.  I'll bring my lava lamp. Do they play the Dead in that hippy shop? :cool: Maybe I can pick up an old Heathkit console TV while I'm there.

Out running around and stopped in at Flea Traders Paradise in Sevierville.  Inside there's a record shop.  Quite a selection.... records, 8 tracks, even laser disc! :stunned: They also have a few turntables & receivers.  I found the one I wanted; a Technics SL-6 in like new condition. :woohoo:

Good find! I used to stop in there when out on the road. It was a great place and way to lose track of time and money.

I have a Technics SP-15 like this. They were used for on air record play, and were real expensive. The TT, base, and tonearm were sold seperately. Mine has a Technics arm like this one. Back in the day, I always used Audio Technica arms with these turntables and bases. The AT arm was more monkey proof. The Technics arms would have never survived in most control rooms.

My Linn LP12, since 1988, continues to play music beautifully, at least 15 hours a week.
Digital is convenience. Analog plays music.
