(Memphis) Ruger 10/22 front sight removal

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Memphis area that can take the front sight off a Ruger 10/22?  I got one for Christmas along with some Tech-SIGHTS and can install the new sights but don't have the tools to remove the factory front sight.

Thanks

I had read some nightmare stories about them being so tight you would need Thor to hammer it out.  On top of that I don't have a vise to hold the barrel.

It it really is that easy though I might consider it, I just don't want to mess anything up on it.

I changed mine a while ago.  Tapped it out with a piece of wood with the rifle on a bench.  No vise, didn't even use a tap. Not saying that is the correct way to do, just showing that it can be done without all the right tools, and my gun suffered no ill effects.

One of mine jiggled out on its own, put it back in with some blue locktite.

I believe they're supposed to come out in one direction, left to right (with muzzle facing away from you).

Well I gave it a shot just to see if it would move any and after a minute or two of a hammer and punch it fell right out.  Didn't take too much hammering and luckily I had a punch that just fit the area I needed to cover.

Thanks for the recommendations.  I now have this thing setup for an Appleseed shoot.
