Nice!  I have a 45 and it has yet to fail.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with them.  Good, heavy gun with a nice trigger, reliable, and acceptable accuracy all at a bargain price.

Functional blocky guns with a popularity base beyond compare with a surprising number of gun savvy folks who recommend them.

I've always wondered how well the Hi-Point production, particularly of their carbine, would "scale-up".

Coupled with the ridiculously efficient logistic system we've developed in this country, I think if the need arose, we could arm every adult in America with a semiauto carbine in a matter of a couple of weeks.

I'd be all about some cheap HP backup pistol and carbine goodness if it weren't for the ridiculously low capacity versus other designs. The guns are big and bulky enough, why not 15-18rds mags?! Sheesh!

Anyways, congrats on the new pistolas, and may they provide you years of trouble-free fun and protection!

I'm with you on the mag capacity problem, especially with the carbines.  I understand it was designed for the Clinton Magazine ban,  Well that's long gone.  Time to upgrade a bit Hi-Point and increase the capacity.  One easy way they could do it is change the grip design in order to use Glock mags.  Now that would be SWEET!!!

IIRC the HPA Pistol/Carbines use proprietary magazines which they outsource and the 45 ACP model doesn't use the 1911 GM magazine. It comes down to the perceived market opportunities which I don't see being large enough for HPA or MEGGAR to want to bother with. Regardless as shooters we've become overly obsessed with hicap magazine necessity, which is an entirely different story. To their credit HPA has focused on producing a functional, affordable and reliable product and continued to refine it.. They had the foresight to  recognize and available market, targeted same and become successful in doing so. Kudos to them and the customers who've supported them and kept said companies employees employed.

I bought at the last Knoxville gun show. I will have to look up the dealers name.  Actually cheaper than I had seen them anywhere

They work great and are an affordable option to someone who just flat out can't afford any other option. They carry a stigma about them BECAUSE they're so cheap AND ridiculously heavy.

I'm not an expert beyond owning a carbine and doing as much research on the brand as possible prior to and after purchase.

I've have had ZERO issues with my carbine; I do more a little more preventive maintenance and cleaning than recommended, but not much

10 round mag capacity...I've got a bunch of extra mags to overcome this perceived weakness, I bought them from HP here are the 9mm handgun mags:  http://www.hi-pointfirearms.net/products.php?cat=13

Common failures occur with the magazines and reports on the 15 round Pro-mag lean more to negative than positive.

Mag lips occasionally need to be tweaked; I don't have the specs handy, but I think OS might.

Another reported "best practice" is to load 8 rounds into a 10 round mag and let it sit for two+ weeks as a step in the break in process.

I think you made a good choice!

Heard good things as well.

I've been seriously considering a hi point to leave in my vehicle. If stolen it wouldn't hurt my wallet too much. Or in the unfortunate case I had to use it for defense the legal system wouldn't be holding an expensive firearm for an unknown amount of time.

Have said more than once, if I knew ahead which day America crashes, would buy at least 25 each of C9s and 995s to stash.

This thread is like talking about RIA 1911s; the more I look at this, the more I think about getting another.

I got one in a trade about 2009 and immediately sold it.

Not a bad line of thought.

I've seen the HP 45 around here for anywhere from $149 to $199 I always stayed away from them cause I figured you get what you pay for and I've read a lot of posts about them being very inaccurate, but i'm thinking about picking one up just to test it for myself, if nothing else I can keep it around for a couch gun.

I can't speak to the 45, but the 9 HP that I had for a week or so was very accurate. Perhaps it was the perceived opinion of them at the time(2008), or just the size that I didn't like.

In retrospect, maybe I should have kept it.

I got the HP 9 and a Smith Sigma from a young man who was highly PO'D with the offer a dealer had made him for the guns. He wanted fast cash. I offered a few bucks more and got them both. Kept the Sigma for a few years. It wasn't bad either. Not the greatest trigger though.

I've told this, before but what the heck?

A handful of years back my mom's main HD weapon was a semi-auto .22LR rifle that had always been a little jam prone (although I pretty much fixed that with a good cleaning and lubing.)  Most of her experience with handguns had been with pocket guns in .22, .25 or .32.  Nothing wrong with those for carry and I'd actually not mind collecting a few (at the right price) but for something that won't be carried, I wanted her to try out a 9mm.  I figured that if I got her a Hi Point she could try out the caliber and if she liked it she could trade up at some point but if she didn't like it I wouldn't be out much $$$.  Well, she liked it so well that I don't think she'd ever even consider trading it.  Hers is plenty accurate.  She used it to qualify for her HCP and apparently shot better than anyone else in her class and I actually think it is kind of fun to shoot..  She likes it so well that when the LGS had a used Hi Point .45 in stock she bought it.  The .45 is also fun to shoot.

The only Hi Point I own is a 995TS.  It is also plenty accurate and I enjoy shooting it.  It isn't currently part of my HD setup but has been in the past and I would trust it to defend my life with.  I do wish that the mags were higher capacity but will probably just end up ordering one of these setups which will allow carrying 30 rounds (one mag in the well and two more in the carrier) on board.
