Anybody who knows how the local contracting process works over there can tell you that every dollar we've spent in Afghanistan has had percentage points shaved off for all kinds of kickbacks to the Taliban and others.  Same for Iraq, we used to factor in a 15% uptick to account for corruption when dealing with contracts in our AO.  It was sickening.

 

As far as Bergdahl went, we didn't want to "end" Afghanistan with the Taliban holding an American Soldier, even if he was captured as a result of his own actions.  Too many bad memories of the POW's left behind in Vietnam, and wanting to deny the Taliban a propaganda victory to not make the deal.
