Do you use a quick detach optic mount?

Do any of you guys use a quick detach mount for your AR optics? Right now all I have is a red dot but am considering also getting a low power scope but would want to be able to swap them out without messing up zero. I am sure a red dot will not see much difference in zero provided I use a quality mount but am wondering about a scope.

I also see folks that only run a red dot and irons with quick detach. If you can run co-witness what's the point? Is there another reason I am not thinking of?

Yes, two Larue's and one American Defense. Never seen a shift in zero with either. The scopes are a 1-4 and a 1-6, the other mount is used on a red dot

None of my scopes are currently using a QD mount. But I would have no problems using one, from a quality brand. I know from others they are reliable and hold zero if removed.
My red dot mount is QD.

I guess I've never seen the point of QD on an optic or scope.  The only thing I can see it being practical for is an optic magnifier.

Being able to switch from a magnified optic to a red dot without a re-zero sounds pretty good to me.

I have had good luck with American Defense on a 10 power scope.  A Larue on an EOTech, and a Bobro on an ACOG.  Those are the only combos I have tried.

I have days where I just simply feel like shooting with irons only. Easy off, easy on, no loss of zero.

PEPR QD w/ a Leupold 3.5-10.  - when the aimpoint PRO is not on it.

I don't seem to have a problem with it.   :pleased:

I have had several PEPR's, and they are great mounts as far as I can tell, though I have never tested the return to zero with them.  My only real gripe with them is how heavy they are.

I use ARMS QR mounts for my M1A for both optics because I have two seperate optics for that particular rifle. I use the Aimpoint M2 with an M68 mount for standard NATO ball ammo (for ranges 100 yds or less) and for long range I have my 3rd Gen Springfield scope dialed in for 168 grain FGMM. This gives me the greatest use without compromising.

Larue makes the best QD's in the industry - my Micro T-1 sits on my 6920's rail securely.

Buy with confidence.

Enjoy the dillo dust.  Good on burgers, steaks and occasionally chicken.
