Two NYPD officers were killed Saturday in Brooklyn as they sat in their squad car by a gunman who reportedly threatened to shoot police hours earlier on Instagram.

The gunman, a 28-year-old with a criminal record who police believe may have been acting in revenge for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, killed himself moments later in a subway station. The incident left the nation's largest police department stunned, and is sure to further inflame tensions between police and Mayor Bill de Blasio, who police had already said was unwelcome at police funerals because of his perceived support for anti-police protesters.

I am sure people will rise up and march and protest in the streets over this! :waiting:

This is bad. And people wonder why officers get pissed when people reach into their pockets or won't show hands. Prayers for the officers families

These murders are no more justifiable than the murder of Eric Garner and I shall condemn them the same. The only difference between the two cases is who is getting up in arms about them.

Don't know why this bothers me, but these two posts which were in sequential order for me this morning, originated within 2 hours of one another, but yet the number of visits are different.  I know this forum has a good cross section of people, but does this mean people as a whole are more interested in a good deal on Chinese made ammo cans, than two police officers gun downed for just wearing their uniforms?  Everything is just sad.

It comes from a nature to avoid reality (I guess) same reason the hive is underused.

Sad story about the senseless murder of two men willing to put their lives on the line so blowhards like al and jesse can incite hate. Deblassio too. I personally think all of those that have spewed their hate and false narrative should be held accountable for murder!

A lot of the blame for this rests upon Al Sharpton for inciting this kind of animosity, then secondly the blame falls to NY Mayor Debassio and President Obama for standing beside them and not backing up their own officers. Not backing up the officers over the last few months is a traitorous act, and this killing is the result of that act.

Obama is the Chief Law Enforcement Office of the land, the top cop. For him to side with the criminals, for no better reason than the color of their skin, is unconscionable. He was supposed to be the great unifier, What he really is, is a divider. He has divided white from black, and cops from citizens.

I fear that this is the beginning of something very bad. The NY cops stood by recently, with their hands tied, and let the so-called peaceful protesters march past shouting that they wanted dead cops. I think that this will start a war of sorts between cops and citizens. These kind of protests are going end up with lots of dead people in the future.

This post has probably not received as many views as the ammo can deal because people have seen the officer shootings on the news. The news generally doesn't report ammo can deals.

This was a tragedy, but I don't know how it could have been avoided.  We have some truly messed up people in our society, more so in an urban environment like NYC. LEO's know the risk when then show up to work and can only mitigate it so far without violating a citizens rights.  Good situational awareness is the only thing that can be applied going forward.

I get that people are upset with Rev. Al and the usual suspects, but the blame is with the sick mind that pulled the trigger, nobody else.  Blaming them is like when far left zealots blame the NRA for every gun death.  It's counterproductive at best.

As to the NYPD being upset with the Mayor, some if it is from his campaigning against, then ending stop & frisk, but the rest seems to stem from him admitting that he had a conversation with his bi-racial son about how he needs to behave around a police officer because of how he looks.  Hard truth's cut deep, but that doesn't make them less true.

De Blasio, who is white, gave some details of the conversations he and his wife, Chirlane, who is black, have had with their 17-year-old son, who is a senior at Brooklyn Technical High School.

“With Dante, very early on, we said, ‘Look, if a police officer stops you, do everything he tells you to do. Don’t move suddenly. Don’t reach for your cellphone,’” said deBlasio. “Because we knew, sadly, there’s a greater chance it might be misinterpreted if it was a young man of color.”

This nutcase shot his girlfriend before killing these Officers. I doubt she had anything to do with these cases in the news. He was just a mental case that wanted to stir some crap on his way out; the world is a better place without him.

It's hard for some when the person that is responsible is dead and there is no one left to hold accountable.

Jackson and Sharpton are trying to make these cases about race because its job security for them. When guns get pointed at cops or people resist or attack cops; people get hurt. Sometimes it's the cops, sometimes it's the citizens, sometimes it's the criminals.

I had the same talk with my kids about being stopped that the Mayor had with his; my kids are white. For the Mayor to tell his kid he is especially in danger because he is biracial is not only ridiculous, its racist; he shouldn't be the Mayor of NYC. He has lost the trust and support of the NYPD; time to go.

Prayers to the families of the fallen Officers.

Well said, Dave.

Our country is in a bad situation right now, and I pray I'm wrong in thinking it's about to escalate quickly.

Think what will happen if some nutcase pops a cap in ol' Jesse, Al, etc.

It certainly isn't a good time for a guy wearing a badge.

I don't see how Deblosio can continue very long as Mayor when NY Police turn their back to him and face the wall as he walks down the hall to the press room, an open show of defience against this clown. And I applaud them, it's definatly time for police and others to openly show their disdain to these political cowards no matter who they are, Mayor, Governor and President. They should however announce a city wide police strike a week before they plan to do it, talk to some city leaders but flat out refuse to have any dialog with that idiot Mayor whatsoever, and if they don't get any satisfaction from the city leaders then go on a total strike. Sometimes it is necessary to put a city or state or country in a critical situation to "FORCE" leaders to do the right thing. This in my opinion is the right time for it.

Well to be perfectly honest I blew off both of these posts. I have nothing to say about that asshole that killed the police that won't get me banned from here and secondly......I have plenty of ammo cans.

Sounds like the strategy of the peaceful protesters concerning the use of force by police officers.

Well, the kid looks a lot more black than he does white.  Then when you consider that over 50% people who get caught up in stop and frisk are black or 14-24, the Mayor has a point that his son was at a higher risk of being in an encounter with police through no fault of his own, and was doing the responsible thing by teaching him how to act in that situation.

So, no.  That isn't racist, it's just life.  Sad as it is.

In that scenario, would you be cool if Mayor De Blasio fired the lot of them and replaced them like Reagan did with the striking Air Traffic Controllers?
