Any good microbrewerys around here?

Recommended Posts

Top 5 based on what I wonder?

Sure as hell isn't one of the best. There are only a few breweries and none of them distribute beyond Knoxville area that I'm aware. Saw Works probably makes the best beer but it's not one of the best-not even close.

I toured Saw Works a while back, super nice folks. At the time, they were one of two microbreweries in TN, Calfkiller being the other one. I know that Saw Works sends beer to Asheville and Nashville, but only in kegs. The guy said there was something screwy with the laws that forced them to only distribute in kegs. I forget why.

Incidentally, a good friend of mine used to be neighbors with the Calfkiller guys. They brewed the beer in a barn and he'd walk over occasionally and taste test whatever they were working on at the time.

I second Black Abbey.

If you like brews and The Pharmacy,.. you should know that a new beer hall is opening soon in Germantown.  I watched the "Draft" guy fitting the 30 taps today.

"Butchertown Hall"

I have no vested interest, but I've heard from a birdie there is an incredible amount of tile on the walls in that place.  I've also heard it looks amazing.   :)

I third Black Abbey

I saw Butchertown Hall yesterday. It's just west of ML Rose on Charlotte. I didn't realize what it was. I'll be checking it out when it opens

I like

Blackstone and Yazoo both. Of course not every offering but they make some good stuff.

Also you should go to The Pharmacy and get some real good German brews on tap. If you need a friend just holler I'm always game :)

I like the beer at Granite City, but the food is pricy and a little underwhelming.

I tried going to the Pharmacy with a friend the other week for a spot of lunch but the line outside was ridiculous. So be prepared to wait (we ended up going elsewhere). I believe they're also gun-unfriendly too if that's an issue.

Yeah it's a popular spot. I went at 11 for lunch and walked right in. So just get up and eat breakfast early.

I also have never been there and not drank beer so carrying is kind of moot. Edited by Lumber_Jack

I went to M L Rose in Nashville a few weeks ago and had a great draft ale. It's on Charlotte Ave across from the Post Office. Sorry, I can't remember what the ale was.

That's their second location. The original one is in the Melrose area (thus the name) at 2535 Franklin Pike. I've been to the one on Charlotte a few times, but not the original one.
