The parade of stupid continues.

"The AR-15 was specifically engineered for the United States military to meet the needs of changing warfare," attorney Josh Koskoff said in a release. "In fact, one of the Army's specifications for the AR-15 was that it has the capability to penetrate a steel helmet."

And how many rifle rounds will penetrate a steel helmet?

Were they wearing steel helmets?

This won't last 30 seconds in court, I'm sure. I had no plans to buy any bushmaster stuff but now I'm feeling more sympathetic towards them.

Or car manufacturers for drunk driving?

I don't think they will get very far in a lawsuit. Maybe settle out of court. All they want is The money.

I wish it wouldn't settle out of court.  Take it to court and show these idiots the frivolous lawsuits have to stop.

I agree it should go to court.

Its a money play AND a political play to rev up the antigun vote --- remember - the left knows it has lost the 2A fight in court due to McDonald. So now their approach is to make guns a public health crisis and also make it extremely painful to be in the business

Yep. Bushmaster did pay an out of court settlement in the past according to today's UPI article on this newly announced Newtown related suit ...

"In a lawsuit over the .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle used in the Washington, D.C.-area sniper shootings that killed 10 people in 2002, Bushmaster and a gun dealer agreed to pay $2.5 million to two survivors and six families in a 2004 settlement. It was the first time a gun manufacturer had agreed to pay damages to settle claims of negligent distribution of weapons, according to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
In that settlement, Bushmaster paid $550,000 and the Washington state gun dealer, where the sniper's rifle came from, paid $2 million." Edited by Djay3

It is no surprise is it, Really??? Anytime one of the blood suckers sees a chance to make a million dollars why not grab the gold ring. Use the suffering of families and by all means blame to gun. It went in that school all by itself and killed all of those people and even committed suicide. I think a gun like that should be sued, Only because the real guilty parties Lanza and his mother are both dead so you cannot sue them. Gotta blame something so next best thing is the gun maker of course......................jmho

I read an interesting article on the net earlier today about the lawyers in the Toyota "uncontrolled acceleration" class action lawsuit getting 500 times more in fees and expenses ($200 million fees and $27 million for expenses if I remember correctly) than all the plaintiff's combined ($395,000+ for a small group and less than $30 for all the others).  To me, that sums up the problem with these situations pretty well.

EDIT: JohnC's post on the PBS gun poll includes an interesting video  - the network coverage at the time repeatedly stated the Bushmaster AR-15 was found in his car; never taken into the school.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK8Z5K5M2Dw&feature=player_embedded

This won't stick, they're just trying to shake down a company and profit off the dead kids.

If it did stick, this would cripple the economy from people suing processed food manufacturers and fast food places for making an unhealthy product... The possibilities are literally endless.

Sue Comcast for providing internet that they used when they got scammed on ebay.

Sue the local electric company when the power goes out and I caught a cold in the middle of the ice storm because there was no heat

Sue JIF peanut butter because they're allergic to peanuts.

A worthy lawsuit. Sue the ATF, I could support that.
Still frivolous BS but I'd still be ok with it. Edited by Caster

hmmm.

would not the discovery process bring out some refinement to the details ?

This may actually be a good thing.

Maybe Mr. Gura will consult on the case.

a lot of the crime scene stuff is already out.  Out of every picture they released, this is the only one I liked.  It's just a shame it didn't occur before the lunatic had a chance to take other people with him.

You know, I was never in the service, so maybe I'm just ignorant, but I often wonder how many of our troops would be ok with being issued an AR as opposed to an M4 or other select fire weapon, which actually is designed for military use. Seems like a poor argument that an AR is/was 'militarily designed for mass carnage on a battlefield'.

That's a point lost on these idiots.

Never in a million years will they win this...if they win you'll see people suing car manufacturers for wrecks, alcohol companies for alcoholism, etc etc etc...humans would no longer be at fault for anything which they obviously cant let happen.

With that said, the comments in that article show how little they know about guns...

I feel sorry for these people, but I cannot see how suing Bushmaster fixes the problem no more than suing Ford when someone who is driving recklessly crashes a Ford truck.

Windhawk:  Thanks to the lawyers who got millions I got a big payday.      $50.48   Once again proves we have a legal system not a justice system.

Now there are Newtown families who lost children suing the school for lax security

The more we see, the more I think there are some lawyers pulling the strings of people who are still grieving the senseless loss of their children with promises of holding someone accountable.  What a shame.
