Dentures

OK, I'll spill my guts. My teeth are in bad shape. I went to a dentist yesterday and he told me it was time for dentures. Makes me feel old but at 63 I am old. I have 25 teeth left in my mouth, two broken off at the gum line that will take a little extra work. For the extractions and a good set of dentures he gave me a price of $4391.00 after Insurance pays it's maximum. Seems a little high to me. Just wondering if anyone here has any info on the going price either personally or from a family member. Thanks for any info.

Ouch, had mine pulled in 92 at a place in Athens for 1500. Got my dentures at affordable dentures. I can tell you that if you are having problems then its time to do something before it affects your health.

I just had an upper made. I went to an oral surgeon to get the 8 teeth pulled because I wanted to be asleep when it happened. Went to Affordable Dentures first and had an impression made and a temporary denture made. Oral surgeon put me to sleep and when I woke up I was wearing the temporary denture. After about a week I had to go back to Affordable Dentures and have my denture adjusted. After about two months my gums had healed enogh that the denture had to be relined. I get the permanet one made in March after my gums are completely healed. The oral surgeon charged $2159. Affordable dentures for the temporary and permanent denture and all adjustments was $825. So far I have been happy with them.

Thank you all for the response. I'm looking at the health aspect because I'm going to have to have some back surgery in the near future. The dentist says if they look in my mouth they won't do the surgery till I get my dental problems fixed. And I have two teeth that are abscessed now.

Monkeyman2500, I have Delta Dental through Nissan as a retiree. The yearly max is $1500. The dentist said the dentures are what he always recommends, and that they are not the cheapest but they have very few problems with them. The cost of the dentures is $1938, with $2453 for the extractions. The price includes gas, I requested that because I don't want to sit there for hours and count the teeth as he pulls them.

Thanks again

If that includes a set of healing dentures before you get the permanents, she said that seems inline with most pricing. She asked if this is a surgical or premier package. If so sounds about right. If they were over type dentures it would be a bit high.

I'd get those teeth fixed sooner rather than later.  A friend's mom nearly died because of an abscessed tooth.  She developed a blood infection from the tooth.  The blood infection ruined a heart valve and led to a mild heart attack.  She had open heart surgery to replace the valve.  I think she was about 60 when that happened.  I'll freely admit that I don't like going to the dentist, but it sure beats the alternative.

Update. As of yesterday I no longer have a tooth in my head. Went to another dentist and got all the extractions and a set of "healing" dentures for less than $1900. In nine months to a year she says I will need permanent dentures and that insurance should pay for half of the price of them. It was a little more of a ordeal than I thought it would be. I would recommend getting fully "knocked out".  A good Jack and Coke double would have done more than the NO2.
