What's the most painful gun you have fired?

I would have to say my Stoeger Coach the first time I pulled both triggers at the same time. I thought I broke my middle finger...I've since learned how to avoid the pain. I've still never stuck any 3" shells down the pipes and done it...maybe on the 14th.

Me too.. My shoulder was bruised for a long time. Won't make that mistake again - I don't care if it's 'authentic' or not, my Stoeger double barrell coach gun now wears a high-tech pad on the stock.

I think I made it through 6 rounds before I put it down and haven't shot anything other than low brass loads through it since. I had a bruise that ran from mid back to my hip.

I wish the guy who shot the 45/70 revolver had given more details. Has anyone ever shot one of those Magnum Research Revolvers, esp. in 45/70?

Up till two weeks ago it was my 300 Weatherby Mag. Then I took my 375 H&H Mag to the range. I had a nice bruise after 3 round of that one.

Interesting to see this thread come back up. I think the first post I made on this I said the 470 Nitro Express was about the most painful thing I had shot. I topped that my a long shot a year or so ago. I shot a 700 Nitro Express double rifle. I'm pretty sure it gave me a concussion. OK maybe not. But, it sure as he!! felt like it did. I can say I shot it, now I doubt I would shoot it again. I would certainly feel sorry for anything on the receiving end of that bullet.

I originally thought it was a Colt Sauer Grand African in .458 Win. Mag when my thumb about ripped my cheek off. But then I got a Styer straight pull bolt action in 8mm x57R and some vintage 1938 Nazi ammo, and as it turned out the Colt wasn't all that bad. Of course it's the most fun in mid August when you're just wearing a t-shirt.

The big african guns sure do kick, but for some reason the 12 ga HR with a hot 3 1/2" turkey load will pound out every bit as much pain. 450 or so grains of shot at 1400+ fps don't sound too bad, but they are coming out of a sub 6# gun.

i must say, i have had 2-3 mosins from long to carbine, and none of them kicked bad at all, seemed more like a 308 to me. as far as a rifle, maybe a ruger #1 in 45-70 loaded super hot while sitting down, 2-3 rounds of that thing made me put it down(the 458 win mag i shot and my 405 winchester didn't kick as bad as that ruger)! i don't know what to say as far as a handgun, my super blackhawk with some hot 44mag loads and the wooden grips has a good bite but not awful. i guess i haven't shot enough big handguns yet

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that thinks the Mosin-Nagant kicks like a mule.

I think it's partly because of the metal butt plate and partly because the stock is so short. It feels like I can never get a comfortable grip on it. I've thought about adding some type of recoil pad that would add an inch or two to the length of pull, but I just haven't done it yet.

There is nothing wrong at all with installing a Nancy Pad.....Amazon.com: M44 Mosin Nagant Rubber Recoil Butt Pad: Sports & Outdoors: Reviews, Prices & more....except you'll burn alot more ammo at the range.

My CVA magbolt 150 hands down!! First time I fired it I had a rifle scope on it and it didn't have the proper eye relief!!. Short eye relief scope + 150 grains of pyrodex + 458grain lead bullet + flip up scope caps = broken nose, cut face, two black eyes, and bruised shoulder.

Shoot a 458 grain 50/150 in with an ultra light rifle stock OUCH!! I ended up filling the stock with steel rods and fiberglass resin in order to add mass to the rifle inorder to make it easier to shoot and second benefit was the rifle no long tries to rotate barrel down while using a sling. I've repeatly shot slugs from a single shot 12 ga. and it didnt hurt my shoulder as bad as that thing does. I let my wife shoot it (she wanted to I warned her) and when she fired it it looked like she had powder on her cheek...it wasn't it was a bruise. guy at the range was shooting a 45/70 (with ported barrel) and was B%$#&ing about the recoil I let him shoot it (from a bipod) he stop B%$#&ing about the recoil of his gun (that was kind of funny really the look on his face was priceless!)

Long guns: Marlin 336 in .30-30 Win. - only painful because I was new to scopes and it taught me a quick lesson about scope relief distances.

Hand guns: S&W .460 Magnum XVR - speaks for itself

Mosin 91/ 59 with that steel butt plate is quite painful. With the pad you can shoot for hours.

I'll second the Steyr. I've got one of the straight pulls - they are carbine length with a steel butt plate. Neat piece of engineering but not alot of fun to shoot all day.

Single shot 50 BMG. Fired a few rounds and removed hearing protection while checking targets. Went back and fired the next round (without hearing protection). My ears rang for days.

Rifle- Kimber 84m ultralight .308 win. 4lbs of pure pain. It's an accurate rifle, once you get past the gun trying to ram it's scope down your throat. Left real nice bruises.

Pistol- T/C Encore .308 win pistol. I loved it and would shoot it again anytime. I'm going to get a 375 H&H barrel for my Encore pistol next year.
