What's the most painful gun you have fired?

A few years ago a friend of mine inherited a H&H double rifle for dangerous game in something like "8 bore" (I don't remember exactly), and 8 of the original 10 rounds still in the box which looked pretty much like shorter version of a 50bmg, but not necked down. I was dumb enough to volunteer to fire the thing. We put it back in it's lined case with 7 of the original rounds (he wouldn't shoot it after seeing me nearly fall on my ass

If your friend still has it put some pics of it up. Would be cool to see it.

Love the big bore double rifles.

The Mosin for me as well. The recoil kinda makes the gun fun to shoot but I wouldn't want to shoot it all day. The .300 win mag I fired was pretty stout but it had a muzzle brake and recoil pad.

Out of a handgun, it would definitely be some hot .44 mags out of musicman's 6" S&W. But again, that was more fun than it was uncomfortable

I'm glad I've been reading this thread. I already had a Mosin Nagant being delivered. Now I have also ordered a rubber recoil pad for it.

The most painful gun I have fired is a S&W 638 with +P ammo. It has cured me of any thought of shooting a .357 in a lightweight J-frame.

My experience isn't particularly broad, but I clearly recall shooting a couple 3.5" turkey loads out of a friend's Benelli SBE. I didn't have my cheek in good contact with the stock when I shot the first one, so I ended up kind of getting a nice slap out of that.

A 10 guage H&R Long Tom goose gun when I was 14 years old. It had a metal buttstock plate (no padding). Guy who had it used it as a "boat cannon", (poaching gun, fired into a bunch of ducks or geese on a pond) and he laughed like h*** when I fired it from the shoulder. he fired it by leaning it on the gunwale of the boat and firing it like a cannon! My first experience with a "Weapon of Mass Destruction!"

I just bought a S&W 442 and a box(100) of +P ammo. Now I'm afraid to take it to the range. I think that I still have several rounds of military 38 that I can use to get the hang of it. :):nervous::P:eek:

Well, at least you didn't buy airweight .357.

Most everyone that does, seems to have leftover box of .357 with 49 cartridges in in!

25 ACP

In the Military I would say the M60 after about 4000 rounds and 5 barrels worn it out but out of the service I guess the Barrett 50 BMG it kicked like hell.

The m60 generally isnt that bad but after you shoot all day it just gets old

When I bought my 442, I asked my roommate to pick me up 100 rounds at BPS since he was going there anyway. He picked up some NASTY +P (I don't remember the brand....) and I shot all of it. Never again. 500 rounds of .40S&W hurt less than that.

Walmart Winchester white box 44mag in a S&W 329PD (the ultra lightweight scandium). Had a death grip on it and the recoil still caused the triggerguard to cut my fingers within 2 rounds.

i've shot 50BMG's, lightweight 30-06's and 38 pen guns, but that 44 kicked my butt. would dearly hate to shoot a full power load in that pistol.

Definitely a 4 bore and an 8 bore. Next to those, maybe a .470Nitro Express in a double rifle.

Not sure of the hubbub with the Mosin Nagent. If the bore has been cleaned properly recoil shouldn't be a problem. The ammo and buttplate both add to it of course. The mosin buttplate, like its wood, sucks. But I never found it painful or that it really packs a punch. In general part of the Russian problem was they never could make a comfortable, quallity rifle with good wood. They were good at making a wachine gun with a 30-30 round that is pretty dad gum good by all battle standards. I have my share of AK's.

I had a Dragunov. It was the best Russia had to offer IMO for a non-machine gun rifle.

I also own a Russian O/U shotgun which is tighter than it should be, but is built like a tank. It is rough but the barrels are regulated well.

IMO the worst recoil in pistols isn't the big ornery 454's and such, it is the airweight 38's and 357's, the derringers and such. Not the big dudes with the big bores.

I did shoot a 454 Bowen short barrel once, thogh not an airweight, it sent a good shock through the body.

I remember when you could buy those Mosin's at Roses's for $39 all day long. I bought a few, and my thoughts on them are mediocre at the very very best.

Well, not the worst gun ever but; I bought a Ruger SP101 in .357 mag last night. Went to shoot it today. Run 100 reload .38's, smooth as silk and a lot of fun. Well, if your gonna carry a certain load for defense, you gotta shoot it first. For defense carry, the pistol is loaded with Hornady's LEVERevolution 140g FTX{looks like a ballistic tip, very cool:up:} which is an advertised 1440 FPS. It has to be one of the most unpleasant combinations I've ever shot. Well, I'll get over it cause this load will certainly turn any BG/mutant/zombie/thug's heart into catfish chum.

These are lighter rounds to get more range out of the lever guns. It doesn’t appear to me that they have an advantage over 158 Gr JHP for revolvers. Fill me in???

What did they cost?

Shot a Mosin at the range today. Can't say as I found the recoil to be particularly bad at all. It certainly didn't live up to the sort of expectation you get reading about the things online.

Heck, the most painful thing I shot today was my P3AT. That little bastard ate my trigger finger up!
