Can anyone date this Smith and Wesson 19-3?

9K55490

They listed it as a 77 or 78. If it is a 77 I'm going after it as it was the year I was born.

If I'm reading it right, my Standard Catalog of Smith& Wesson would indicate it as 1976.

1976   9K10001--9K99999.

If it's in good condition and a fair price, go for it anyway. The 19 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of S&W Revolver design.

Not to mention they are great shooters for about any purpose.

I have 2 19-3s and wouldn't sell them unless forced to.

What's the barrel length? Condition? And location? Maybe I could get it? Just kidding.

6 inch described as near new

That sounds good. Box? Heck if the price is good, I'd go after it myself, but it's up to you. That's a lot of gun, and a lot of barrel.

I would prefer 4 inch, but I don't have a 6 inch. Guess I need a snubby too.

First I mistook the title of this thread as something else, then I entered and read this post.

wow.

Don't bother with a 2.5"; the 3" are the creme de la creme.

Why a 3 inch? It looked like a lot of mbers were repulsed by a 3 inch LCR. I would dig a new 66 in 3 inch if they would kill the lock.

The 3" has a full-length ejector rod and is about like a g19/23 on the universal weapon scale. I have pocket carried the 65 a time or two but with different grips.

The LCR is ugly! The K frame Smith and Wesson doesn't suffer this malady.

Full power 357 loads in a K frame are a handful. I prefer a 27 or 28 for shooting, but a 19 sure carries a lot better.

I have a 19 6" I bought in about 1976. It was the first hand gun I ever purchased. It is by far the sweetest revolver out there. Ive shot a ton of ammo through it and cant ever imagine selling it. You'll love it. The action can be slicked up like butter if it isnt already.
