The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941.

I went to Pearl Harbor for the 60th anniversary; it was amazing and emotional.

I hope someday to visit the Pearl Harbor and Arizona Memorials.

I have been there twice.  Its great to see, and very somber.

I have seen the USS North Carolina on display in Wilmington NC. It was the first Battleship to enter Pearl Harbor after the attack, brand spankin' new. The harbor was a wreck, full of oil and sunken ships. Thousands of men were working to get the harbor cleaned up. They all stopped to cheer the North Carolina. She was a fast ship, going in harms way. During the Guadalcanal Campaign she fell victim to the deadliest spread of Torpedoes every fired from a submarine.  Six torpedoes  were fired from the IJN submarine I-19. Three hit the USS Wasp and sunk her. The three that missed traveled over two miles where they broke the USS O'Brian in half and put a 20 foot round hole in the USS North Carolina. The "Showboat" never broke speed and shook off the hit like a champ.

Maybe I shouldn't say anything to my wife and start saving now to go for the 75th.  (2 years).

 

would like to think I can but won't dare make myself that promise right now.  Too many things are taking funds and many of them are slated to continue for 3-4 years.

I was fortunate enough to re-enlist there and place a wreath, it changed me forever. This was many many years ago

I visited Pearl Harbor 20-odd years ago. As others have said, very somber and serious place. Dec 7th has more meaning for me... my youngest turned 4 today. :)

I heard James G. Daniels III tell his story of flying into Pearl that night and coming under friendly fire. It was very emotional to hear him tell his story.
He died in 2004; not many survivors are left.
