The Battle of the Five Armies

I just got in from it too. Meh.

The source material for these 3 has been too thin. It's clear that the writers of the non-book scenes are not Tolkien. Instead of having interesting story, they fill it with lengthy ninja-elves/indestructible-dwarves battle scenes with way too much flying through the air. It's like an 8 year old playing with action figures. After making it through the first 2, I'm glad I went to wrap it up, but I'm glad it's done. These 3 are nowhere near as good as the LOTR trilogy.

My wife & I watched it Tuesday night at my local theater. Well worth seeing, but I agree that these three don't quite compare to the LOTR trilogy. I quickly got tired of the CG "ninja" elves & dwarfs in part two... (the ridiculous barrel escape down the river  :shake: ). Now I've got to wait for the new Star Wars next year. I hope Disney does it justice, but it's doubtful any will compare with the original episodes IV, V, & VI.

The trailer for ep7 looks pretty good. They are supposed to be using less CGI this time around as opposed to the prequels...hopefully the acting will be a little better...

Jackson's first film really was great. But honestly his vision of Tolkien just doesn't move me. i suppose I'd prefer to just read it again.

When I went into the theater I was sure this movie would suck. I was wrong. It was a great non stop action film. It finished up the series nicely. The first movie was kind of slow. The second movie had that ridiculous scene inside the mountain where mighty Smaug was chasing the tiny little dwarves around but just couldn't seem to catch them. It was like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. The "Five Armies" showed Smaug as one badass dragon. Of course I could write a long list of how the movie strayed from the book. The tallest giant of an Orc was nearly as tall as a man, according to Tolkien. But this is Peter Jackson's movie.
