A 9mm ain't sh!t

Here's a interesting story I would like to share.

I was in Academy for the first time here in Clarksville a few weeks ago looking at the handguns where this husband is showing his wife guns and here is the interesting part.

He takes her to the 45s and says, "A 9mm ain't shit all it's going to do is piss the guy off but, a 45 is going to stop him."

I was very tempted to say something but, I just shaked my head and walked off.

By the way, the guy was about 5'6 and jacked as hell so he must be compensating for something.

Then he shouldn't mind going out to the parking lot and catching a few rounds of .22 to prove his point.

That would be a death sentence. Everyone knows 2 x .22 = .44 and while the .44 is still .45-1, it's still close enough to do some real damage. ;)

I've always felt that anyone that says so and so caliber ain't shit should be made to be shot once, center mass, with said caliber from about 4 to 5 feet right there on the spot.

My thoughts have always been that 9mm worked pretty darn good for the Germans.

They lost, remember? Just imagine how it would have turned out if JMB had been a German and he gifted them with the .45 of the gods!

The Germans made extensive use of the P-35 or "Hi Power" as it is now known, a 9mm based on a JMB design.

Yep, and you see where messing with his divine design got them. Straight to the hangman's noose at Nuremberg. Proof that the 9mm ain't ####. If they'd kept the mighty .45 against our own 1911 thunder hammers, the two mighty forces colliding would likely have caused an extinction event like the one that that killed off the dinosaurs. Geologists 100,000 years from now would be referring to the "JMB layer" in the sedimentary time line.

Similar nonsense is said in every gun shop across the country. Eavesdrop sometime and you will hear.

Yep...and it's found on a lot of posts across the internet gun forums also.

My opinion so take it for what it's worth but the best caliber for anyone is whatever you are comfortable with and can shoot the best with it's all about training if it's not fun to shoot or is uncomfortable to shoot you won't practice and you won't be accurate with it

I work in a pawn shop and yes you hear this all the time. What I think is funny is a have a 25 in my pocket that I know will go bang every time and will keep them all in the head at 20' so yah you keep your 45 and I will have a 25 in my pocket and a 9 on hip at all time and feel safe around anyone.

Good for you for staying silent. It wouldn't have done any good for you to say anything. Know-it-alls like this are usually legends in their own minds.

A few other things, he was with his 2 kids and his wife was thinking about carrying and hadn't shot in ages and that's why he did the whole 45 bit.

But, he was right about pissing the guy off. I'm mean I'd be pissed if I was shot with a 9mm. Of course, I would also be rolling on the ground in pain trying not to bleed to death but, still pissed

See, this lil guy will talk her into getting a .45, he'll take her to the range and "teach" her to shoot it, she'll hate the recoil, miss her target, develop a permanent flinch reflex, and learn to hate guns and shooting....all because of this idiot.

As Bill Davison (Former British Royal Marine and CT Instructor with lots of time in Northern Ireleand) "I have never seen someone not die because they got shot with a 9 mil; they all died immediately and I'm really pleased with the cartridge," ......

How many has he seen get shot from a 9mm?
There is a guy up in NYC, Angel Alvarez, that got shot more than 20 times by NYPD, and one of those was in the head, that could probably argue that 9mm ain't shit. Edited by Patton

And Charlie Beckwith (the guy who founded Delta - the unit not the airline-) was hit with a 12.7mm round (the Russian .50 cal) in vietnam and survived....so what?

Exactly WHERE did  the NY bullet sponge get hit? And was the head wound a penetrating wound or a superficial glancing shot?

Sorry, but I'm gonna side with Davison who worked counter terror in Northern Ireland vs the IRA (and the SAS and SBS shot a lot of Irishmen) vs an anecdotal story of some guy somewhere sometime who was shot somewhere with 9mm who did not die. Especially when that is EXACTLY what the SEAL contingent that "testified" at the FBI wound ballistics workshop in 87 said . They gave a "classified " briefing which pretty much said 9mm killed people dead when you hit them somewhere important.

Peripheral hits don't do any good with any caliber. And I'm going to guess that the NY guy took a lot of hits in NON VITAL places.  But holes in hearts , spines and brains are just that....HOLES in hearts spines and brains no matter what puts them there. And holes in hearts , spines and brains tends to make people lay down and die right now.  Placement is far and away more important than bullet diameter given an adequate amount of penetration to hit vital structures. Next most important is punching multiple holes and disassembling those internal organs. Physics is physics and scientifically measurable data is just that...scientifically measurable.... and the difference in energy is MINUSCULE between .45 and 9 and the difference in size of hole is minuscule.

As to anecdotal stories.....In the book "A Wayward Angel the Full Story of the Hells Angels" one of them was shot multiple times with .45, survived and actually got a tattoo that said ".45s aint sh!t ,17 holes , 4 creases"..... so ANYTHING can fail spectacularly if the shooter can't place the holes into important structures......
