Greetings,

I recently applied for a TN carry permit and about 2 weeks after fingerprinting I received a letter in the mail requesting court disposition of an old (and dismissed) misdemeanor possession charge from my younger years. I went to the courthouse and acquired certified copy of the court's dismissal of the charge and mailed it to the address they told me to. I just wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience, and if so, how long after sending off the document was it before hearing something?

Thanks

It will vary and the past won't predict the future in this case. I know you are anxious but give it a month. As you may know they have 90 days but they are usually quicker.

Not unusual at all, many reported here over the years. It can also happen with buying a firearm, but is not as clearcut, as you have to appeal the denial, then wait better part of 3 weeks before you can find out exactly what the prob is.

All due to court records not being in correct final form in some officially required way or other. The further irony is that the charge does not have to be a disqualifying one for the permit, or to buy a firearm.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks and update...I checked my application status online at lunch and saw that I have been approved and permit will arrive in 10 business days. That was fast!! I just mailed them the documents 5 business days ago.

So, the entire process for me took about a month from the day I submitted the online application.

At least you were not in the 1st batch of of the TN HCP 20 years ago, it took 6-8 mos to get the card due to the volume and state being unprepared.  Talk about pins and needles.

Glad to hear you got an approval on your HCP application quickly.  The process on initial applications and renewals is much better than in the past.
