Shoulder holster?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm trying to decide on a carry method for my P226. Given the size of the gun, I'm considering shoulder holsters.

Do any of you find shoulder holster carry practical, or use it on a regular basis?

For those of you with shoulder holsters, what model(s) do you find useful?

Finally, do any retailers in the Nashville area have a wide variety to examine? Most of the stores I'm familiar with only have 1-2 various models in stock at any given time.

I've never used a shoulder holster. I used to work in a trauma center and I took care of several people that shot themselves while either trying to reholster while wearing one, or they bent over and the gun fell out and discharged into their chest. These people were probably negligent in some way, but I don't want to test the waters.

I carry a 1911 in a regular old M7 leather shoulder holster, especially on a motorcycle or doing alot of driving. I find it both comfortable and highly practical for carrying 45-50 ounces of pistol. For drawing and firing in a vehicle, can't be beat, except maybe with a crossdraw belt rig. I don't know if your sig will fit or not. Can get one here, or maybe you can find an el-cheapo in a surplus store. The M3 is a different rig...its worth a few bucks for an M7.

Its not a "concealed carry" rig, but it does fine under a light jacket.

Just another tool in the collection; but not a “regular basis†holster. I have used them for years. To me they are the ultimate concealed carry holster if you never have to take your jacket off.

In Illinois that was pretty common; in Tennessee I don’t get much use out of them.

But as Mugster pointed out they are great if you ride a motorcycle.

I have a Safariland leather up-side down rig for a J-Frame. It’s lasted 30 years. I had a couple others for K-Frame revolvers but I think I sold them.
