The season is over but I must say I sure like this new chase format!  Congrats to Harvick.  Was hoping Newman could pull it off but he came up short.  Not bad for someone who most said would be eliminated after the 2nd round.  IMHO, as long as the #18 & #24 aren't in victory lane, it's a good race. :pleased:

I completely lost respect for and interest in nascar during the fallout from Dale Sr.'s death. Now that they're fighting in the pits again (which tells me they care more about winning than sponsor money and image), color me curious.

NASCAR could use some more colorful drivers like the late Tim Richmond instead of boring personalities like Jimmie Johnson.

With the positive changes made (Gen 6 car & new chase format) I think they're going a step backwards next year by reducing horsepower, lowering the spoiler, and lowering the differential gear ratios to make the racing "closer."  Sounds like restrictor plate racing for all tracks.  Will lead to more wrecks but I guess that's what keeps the fans entertained.  :squint:

I guess Harvick deserved it. Not a fan of his by any stretch but his team overcame a lot in their first year together.

NASCAR is about as scripted as WWF.  When I want to see racing I watch Moto GP or Formula 1, besides both of those race in the rain and turn right occasionally.

I've said for years that NASCAR should race in the rain. Just pit, put on rain tires, and keep going!

They would have to redesign the "stock" cars to carry windshield wipers.

I agree.  3500lb cars with 800hp on hard, skinny tires in the rain would be exceeding entertaining.... for the first lap.  Then half as entertaining on the 2nd lap... then half again as entertaining on the 3rd lap.  Then really boring watching the 2 or 3 guys that know how to drive in the rain putt around.

But seriously... I've always been of the notion that racing was intended to improve the breed.  It's a way to test new things and push the boundaries, figure out what works and what doesn't.  Nascar was like that up until the late 80's. Now, it's got very little to do with racing and everything to do with entertainment.  The cars are this bizarre mix of technology from 1940 and today.  I just don't get that.

That anaolgy is perfect. Id rather watch some flat track motorcycles or some World Rally Cup. There is nothing like a 500 hp tubroed awd sedan doing a 120 mph through the trees in snow or mud.
