My job requires a lot of travel in TN and KY and I think, after a year, I've hit every gunstore and pawnshop in my Territory at least once...

I look for selection, availability and customer service. I can only think of 2 I look forward to coming back to and only one I will drive 80 miles out of my way to get to...

how about you all?

I agree. My route takes me all over Middle Tennessee and Kentucky, and I too have visited just about every gun shop in those areas. Very few are worth a second visit.

I was just at a little shop (don't recall the name) in Hohenwald, TN, and like most others, it wasn't much worth the first trip, much less a second. They tend do have almost no stock, and if they do, it tends to consist of Hi-Points and way overpriced used garbage.

I guess, in more rural areas, this type of gun store is better than no gun store, but I really feel bad for those forced to shop in them.

Two of the best gun shops on my route would be Hero-Gear in Winchester, TN and Whitaker's in Owensboro, KY. Other than some of the bigger chain stores, I've NEVER seen such a selection of guns, ammo, knives, gear and accessories in my life as I did at Whitaker's. It's amazing. And from what I saw, the prices were about as fair as I've seen.

Yep, those are the only two I've found, though Guns-and-leather comes in a close 3rd...

There's a pawnshop in Hixson called Valu+ Pawn that I have a done alot of business with lately. I got a all matching numbers Russian SKS there awhile back for a very good deal. They know me by name and always treat me right.

I went out of my way on Thursday to head to Guns and Leather for the first time and meet up with some friends who live out that way. I was really impressed with their customer service, selection, and friendliness.

Guns and the related accessories cost a heck of a lot of money. I don't think I'm out of line expecting a little engagement and enthusiasm, and Guns and Leather had both in abudance. :leaving:

I'm still new to the game so to speak, and haven't visited the holy Hero Gear shrine, but I felt really good about my time at Guns and Leather.

I must say, ATF* is a great shop. Great customer service, the best prices, and a well-known member as runner.

*And now to test everyone's deciphering skills.

Haven't been to Hero Gear yet (going this week) but will agree with Whitaker's in Owensboro, that place has more long guns than anywhere I've ever been at very competitive prices.

For smaller shops there are a couple in/near Clarksville. Tennessee Gun Country in Clarksville, Knife and Gun Country in Oak Grove Kentucky, The Shell Shop in Hopkinsville.

Whittakers is probably the best store all around I have been in although their range is opened only on weekends except during hunting season.

The smaller stores actually seem to keep the gun culture alive.
