Shopping for parts....need advice

I have decided to do a 9mm AR build. looking at a CMMG dedicated 9mm lower, but can I use a standard 5.56 style upper as I don't like the look of the shortened dust cover, it just looks cheap to me.

Yeah. The 9mm upper does not have a smaller port, the port is partially block with the 9mm brass deflector. The upper is jugs a standard 5.56 upper with a partially blocked ejection port.

If you have a Glock 9mm, or plan on getting one, look hard at 1/4 Circle 10 lowers. They are a little more but use a much more reliable setup.

I have a Colt pattern 9mm AR with over 9K trouble free rounds. Well trouble free as long as I am not shooting hollow points. I have read that the Glock setup feeds and functions fine with hollow points.

Yep I shoot mine with standard port doors. There's nothing on a 9mm bolt to keep the door closed but that's about it

If the door wont close then I will just leave it off....I have been to a zillion websites pricing parts and I am looking at 1350 + the cost of an armorers kit. Also looking at a slick side upper as the bolt isn't notched for a forward assist.

Appears to be sold out now but the price was $599 if I recall correctly.

 

Word is they have other plans in this department like .40 and .45 cals and possibly lowers that accept Glock mags.

The drivingforce behind this build was this article.... The PSA kit looks awesome but I want to try building from scratch including the upper.
