"Impossible to get legal gun carry permit in D.C."

Well, "proving a need" was struck down in California by federal court, and they are now "shall issue".  Only problem right now is the huge backlog of applications.

Somebody needs to get this into court for the DC district too.

The process is simple. If you're in the process of getting raped or murdered or if the British are coming, all you have to do is call the permit office & they'll let you fill out the papers. Yeah...okay!   :surrender:

Yeah, that adds great hope for striking down a lot of laws in a lot of places. My question is, what about equal protection under the law for people from out of state? CA, like many liberal states, doesn't recognize out of state permits or even offer an out of state permit. If the other states are forced to acknowledge other state's driving permits, why not gun permits? It should be an easy court victory, but the fact that we just won this ruling after 238 years of being a country doesn't bring me much hope.

The no permit law in D.C. is part of the reason my brother recently transferred to another state. He lived in VA & had a CC permit, but worked for the D.O.D. & had top security clearance, but was still not allowed to carry in D.C. or at his job because of idiotic gun laws. The last straw was when he was working at the Navy yard & witnessed the shooting last year. A good friend & co-worker of his was murdered along with other employees because they worked in a "gun free zone". If the employees had been armed, there would at least had a chance to try to stop the gunman, but our govt. sees legally armed citizens as more of a threat. Disarming legal gun owning citizens & posting "no gun" signs does not make America a safer place. To this day I've never heard of a gunman politely asking permission to go on a shooting spree!

Um.... Post says "don't" come down here... :squint:

If the SHTF, I may take on a few if they have the right qualifications. I wont except usless skills like if they have a law degree, or political science degree, administrative, CEO of a large corperation etc. They must be licenced to drive a wheel barrow, experienced in operating a shovel and hoe, maybe an agricultural degree would be handy and especially a degree in medicine. Military experience especially with a combat MOS would be top of the list.  :)

Emily Miller's book, "Emily Gets Her Gun" goes into great detail about all of the road blocks to gun ownership in DC.

She sure does her homework and footnotes galor add huge credibility to her book that documents the threats to the remnants of the 2nd Ammendment in our country.

Looks like the district is in a slow retreat:

Judge Scullin asked the lawyers for the District on Thursday whether they had any statistics to show that restricting gun-carry to only people who can demonstrate a special need would enhance public safety.

Assistant Attorney General Andrew Saindon said he did not have any such statistics. He argued that, by establishing a licensing scheme, the city was complying with the judge’s orders.

DC will have to be dragged kicking and screaming every single inch to allow carry in the District.

I suspect this will end soon. The city has put the Police Chief in the position of issuing the permits. She can’t use the excuse they have created requirements that they don’t have the ability to fulfill. She will start issuing permits or be held in contempt would be my guess. The Mayor should be held in contempt with her.

If you're lucky enough to get approved, you won't be able to take a training course because "the department has yet to approve any instructors to teach the required course." :surrender:

And you can't get approved without taking the required training course. Kind of a catch-22, ain't it?

Along with all of the putzes on the DC city council who approved the scheme.
