M1 Garand sling on AR?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for recommendations on a simple two point sling for the AR. I am looking hard at the GI style M1 Garand cotton web slings but am not sure if they would attach to the AR slings correctly. They have the little metal j-hook on one end and from what I can tell it should fit but I just don't know? Anyone have experience with this? I would like to take an Appleseed course soon and this type of sling should fit the bill.

I found this one on eBay. Good to go?

That's pretty cool! The main thing I wanted was the cotton and as cheap as those were I went ahead and ordered it. I won't ever have a use for a single point sling. The main reason I want the GI style is so I can unclip it easily and do the "arm rap" technique for stability. Once I learn to do it that is haha.

I have the same on a my A2.  Funny this thread was posted, because I'm in the market for a sling, and was considering the same since I like the one already on my A2.  I did find these at a reasonable price, I assume they are the same:

Never mind. I see that one is black but also nylon. If you are wanting a cotton one take note of that.

I just received mine in from the guy shown in my first link and it is a solid strap. Although I have never seen a GI sling this one is built well with heavy hardware and I have no reason to assume it's not GI. Runco if you still want one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Thanks, I am going to purchase this week, probably your source.

While it looks good on an old rifle like the M1 garand, I am not a fan for ARs. My M16 had one of those on it, the metal clip on the bottom was noisy as heck so I ditched it and looped the sling through the fixed point and used the buckle to secure it. The adjustable buckle, while easy to operate would sometimes loosen on its own due to the running end pushing up on the lever. If you pry up the two tangs on the side it was possible to run the running end through them but defeats the purpose of the adjusting buckle. Some of the more modern slings are much better since they have taken the deficiencies and fixed them.
