The passing of the Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band played their last concert night before last.

I first heard their music in 69. Southern, soulful, churchy, and unlike anything I"d ever heard before. I was instantly smitten,

I wasn't the only one.

Eric Clapton heard Duane and had to play with him. The result of that was the Layla Sessions.

I first saw the band in the summer of 71 in Georgia. My cousin stole his dad's car and we were off. Probably the concert that changed my life.

The ABB has been the background noise of my life for 45 years and they played their last show 2 days ago.

I'm in mourning.

In case you're not familiar, or have just forgotten, here's a little enjoyment.

I like them but they have not been relevant for years.  If you had not posted they retired I'd have never known.

Agreed. My wife took her dad several years ago. He was a huge fan. They left early because it was so bad.

Edit to add: this could maybe be said for southern rock at large. We've got some great stuff coming out of Nashville these days, but is there anything that you can really say sets a standard?

After they booted Dickie Betts, their sound changed. Health and age have been a factor too.
They have and will be a part of great American history for me. I saw them once in the 90's and they were bad a**!

I grew up listening to them and many other great bands that have all began to fade into the limelight of time. They say that all good things must come to an end and this is just one more of them. Last concert I attended was the last performance by Lynard Skynard before the plane crash and the Marshall Tucker band opened that night for them. After the crash I never felt like going to another concert. The Allman Brothers will be missed for sure by people my age................jmho

Don't give up hope. Plenty of bands have come back after a farewell tour.  And maybe some of them shouldn't have.
