In all honesty I thought between Obama and Biden running their mouths and the Chinook that went down in Afghanistan I thought all of the team that took Bin Laden out were already dead.?????????.....................jmho Now that is has been released that he is going to come out I hope they already have the interview because he probably won't make it till November 11th......................jmho

If that's the case I hope he is single, was an only child and his parents have long passed.  He should be flogged for putting other people in danger if not... But he has to have some level of "smarts" because he did make it to SEAL team 6, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

While I'm grateful of his service, this is not going to be good for him. SEALs take pride in not being prideful. Plenty of SEALs do much more harrowing things and don't say a word about it. A normal Joe, I could see doing this, but not a SEAL. That's what makes them special.

Well look at Chris Kyle. It seems like soon as they become known to the world they seem to die. For a long time no one knew except an elite few knew that Chris was a Seal Sniper and one of the most if not the best ever and  when he comes out and starts trying to help people, one of the people he is trying to help ends up killing him. People who have a past need to leave it in the past unless they have a death wish....................jmho

Sadly Chuck nailed it. I am not, nor have I ever been a SEAL, went to BUDS or tried to pass myself off as a SEAL. With that said when I was at SERE we worked pretty closely with the West Coast Teams and I became friends with a few of them. With that said in the 90's you wouldn't know a person on the street was a SEAL unless you knew him or were at a particular bar in Coronado. Back in July I was out in San Diego for a friends retirement from the Navy. I was shuttling his family back and forth and had to take his wife by Balboa. I dropped her off and drove around in the parking lot waiting for her to get what she needed. I see a SEAL LT (0-3) walking through the parking lot in khakis. I watch him get into a blue Jeep with the license plate that read BUDS and his class number. My heart sank a bit, but that prompted me to reach out to some of my old friends to ask them to smack the crap out of that LT. LOL The one I looked hardest for is trying very hard not to be found. His OPSEC is better than my Google-fu. I do know his rank, command and job. Due to that I have been cautious about reaching out.

I mean you laugh, but at least it used to be the case. I should have said openly prideful though. But this current generation (everyone, not just military) is all about personal gratification. Used to be you did your job because that's your job. Now it's "oh look, I did my job, I need praise".

It isn't the case anymore. Maybe Charlie Sheen ruined it for the organization? Imagine how disappointed I was when I found out that you can't destroy an APC with a Stinger missile.

I've met and worked with my share of older SEALs, who were, for the most part, true professionals. The ones I've worked with over the past decade+ are generally high on the image projected in the media and film. An older SEAL colleague of mine introduces himself as the one SEAL who hasn't written a book yet.

I think it already has. My Grandson entered the navy to become a Seal and believe me he is Seal material and that was all he talked about and he lived, breathed and slept it. On his second Leave when he came home he looked at me and said Poppaw I won't be re-enlisting and I hope your not ashamed of me for not doing it. And I got up and walked over and hugged him and said Son I could never be ashamed of you and your decisions. He is home now and I am thrilled because i feared for his life every minute he was gone.

He said after being in the beginning classes he was seeing changes almost over night. He studied about everything he was able to get his hands on about what the training would consist of and within 7 months the entire training programs had changed and the changes made him begin to feel uncomfortable. He didn't elaborate and I didn't push. He left with an honorable of 4 years. He came to me the other day and we had a long talk. He still feels that he wants to serve his country much more than he has and he has been talking to some Rangers and guys in Ranger training and they said that their programs have also changed since they enlisted. I told him, son, your still a very young man with your whole life ahead of you. Lets wait a few years and look at this again. I don't know if he will or not but I will support what ever his decisions are. I just hope he waits..................jmho
