Madison Is a starting pitcher, it was all hands on deck. He came in and pitched on two days rest.

I thought they kept saying he was a closer or reliever all through the game and talking about how many pitches he was making?

They changed the ruling. Affeldt got the win, Bumgarner got a 5 inning Save.

Ok, when I last heard it was a win. Either way good game and series.

yeah he's a stud.  He pitched a complete game in game 5, and 5 innings in game 7.  Unbelievable

Personally, watching baseball is like watching paint dry: however, being from Kansas City during the George Brett years I had to watch the last 4 innings of last night's game. It seems their manager is carrying on the coaching methods of Marty Schottenheimer: "I'll get ya there just to break your heart." For the conspiracy theorists, it was obvious that the umpire had money riding on the Giants when they showed "strikes" clearly outside the strike zone.

that went both ways, he had a very generous strike zone.  Not what most wanted to see in a WS game 7.

Hopefully it wont take 30 years for KC to get back

I've been watching baseball my entire life and can't remember seeing a 5-inning save before.

He's only 25, which is still a few years away from what is considered "prime years" for a pitcher.  It's scary to think there is room for improvement in his game as he goes on.  My father (a Red Sox fan like myself) said "I'm glad he isn't in the American League!"

The save/win has to do with who was pitching when the leading run was scored. Affeldt was in the game when the Giants scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Under rule 10.17, the only way a pitcher does not get the win when he is in the game when the winning run scores is if he is a starter and did not go five innings or was "ineffective in a brief appearance." Affeldt pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Tim Hudson and therefore earned the win.

As a Braves fan I was in awe of Bumgarner but I hate that we face him. Knocked Braves out of playoff in 2010. Unhittable
