I hate stupid marketing people.

When you have so much advertising crap on your web site it’s hard to find the information I clicked on it for, or if you are a news site and you think you are going to force me to watch a video advertisement… you are wrong, I’ll click back and head somewhere else.

It’s your job to get advertisement dollars, but when you interrupt the flow; you are an idiot.

That is all.

i agree 1000% DaveTN. I have also noticed that in about 80% of everything I actually want to read in my searches it seems that the advertisements always seem to be opened first and what you actually wanted to read is the last item to read. I have even had it happen many times that it will get all of the junk mail up on the screen and ready and they come back with "the information you requested in not available any longer"!!!!...................

I've mentioned it here on TGO several times in the past, so sorry for being redundant, but the info is good.  Using a hosts file is an easy way to block all those annoying ads.

Google "no-ads host file" and you'll get several links to sample host files. Replace your hosts file with one of these, and you'll see a drastic reduction in ads. As a bonus, it will also block many malware sites.

The way it works is like this: The internet is made up of IP addresses, that we can't remember, but we can remember names. A DNS server is what converts a name to an IP. A Windows and Linux computer will check the hosts file before checking with the DNS server. If there is an entry in the hosts file, it uses that IP and does not consult the DNS server.

These no-ad host files contain the names of thousands of ad and malware sites, and then redirect them to an invalid IP address. When you go to a web page full of ads, your browser tries to look up the site containing the ad, gets redirected to the invalid address and displays an empty box where the ad should be.

I'm always shocked when I use someone else's computer and go to someplace like Yahoo. It looks completely different than on my PC.

Try it. just rename your current hosts file, and you can always put it back if you don't like the results.

^ This is all it comes down to.

I bet the bitching would be much louder if websites decided to cover their operating costs through subscriptions.

Yea , like back in the late 70's when cable was first being sold to the public. We were all told Obama lies back then. They said if we signed up for cable and paid the fee we would get commercial free programing. I guess it was only a half lie. Like the glass of water half full or half empty. They just forgot the part about paying extra for the commercial free programing. If you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance as long as you purchase it through the ObamaCare ACA program and pay triple the cost your paying now. Kinda the same thing..................................

Little scope walk on the thread, that is why I don't get mad when Walmart has only 4-5 registers open, and large lines.  I like the prices of Walmart, and I don't want to pay for alot of overhead!  I didn't use to be that way though, but I am more tempered now.  Everything has a cost!  Everyone wants your money.

The same promise was made for satellite radio when it was being rolled out.  Nothing will ever be off limits as long as it makes a company money.

It would even be worth if it Walmart actually saved me any money. I cut my grocery bill down considerably by not shopping Walmart.

The only web site ads that bother me are the ones that pop up through the pop up blocker. Usually an ad for the site I'm on. That doesn't make much sense to me.
