Just a thread for things that make you go ugh when you see them on firearms.

Rails on 1911s.

Blinged out Glocks, S&W, XDs and so on.

$400 pistol with $200 of after market parts.

People wanting 1911 triggers on non-1911 pistols.

I understand not everyone dislike these things.

Flashlight, laser, huge 24 power + scope, forward pistol grip, bipod on a AR,AK, or SKS. All this stuff Hanging on the rifle makes it weigh 30 pounds. Lol

Same for me on the blinged out glocks. All my glocks are factory except extended slide releases and sights. And I hate where scopes are mounted way higher on rifles like on top of the carry handles on an AR. I'm a flat top kinda guy. I don't like fold up stocks on AK's. The wood furniture looks better to me. And...1911's.

Eotech on Barrett .50

But really, shiny paint on hunting rifle (except highlights for leaf detail).
Expensive gun, $15 holster
Nice gun and holster on $15 dress belt

Saw a guy oc'ing a small (26/27) Glock in an ol' floppy ass nylon holster at walmart. I sure hope it wasn't chambered. Even with pistols with a manual saftey I hate nylons. My very first holster was a nylon but after I "jumped into" the gun world I quickly saw the light.

I too started off with nylon. Never turned back!

LMAO Mine too, Ruger P89 and thought I was hot stuff! Even when I was a noob I never OWB carried. I thought it was awesome to be carrying but didn't want anyone but my friends to even know I had one on. Years later I am glad I wasn't wanting to show off the gun.......because people with TGO knowledge would probably be making fun of me HA HA! I sometimes wonder if I ever did anything back then that I would make fun of now. Probably.

I think a lot of paint jobs can look tacky.  But that's just my personal aesthetic, I know some of you guys love doing it from the Show and Tell forum.

Camouflaging a long gun never appealed to me since with a fresh coat, it doesn't look right, and to get that worn in look, I'd have to beat it up pretty good, which being my own stuff, I'm not inclined to do on purpose.  Painting a pistol just seems weird to me, unless it's a touch up job in a standard color to give it some new life, which I do agree with.

The only pattern I'd consider getting done is that muddy girl style to paint up an AR in .22LR for my girlfriend to shoot alongside me when we go to the range.  She isn't a fan of shooting much higher for rifle rounds, and likes having girly stuff.

I'll use a separate post to call anything zombie related a gun turn off for me.  I hope those who bought something with that, or added it themselves in a permanent way didn't hope for resale value to be the same as a non-zombie gun would be.

Except to other zombie themed fans I guess. Not a big thing for me either. But apparently there was a market for it? I like basic although I do paint my AR's in flat camo colors and love it more when they are worn looking.

The thing that bothers me the most is a firearm with messed up screw heads where some wannabe gunsmith worked on them with an improperly fitting screwdriver. Makes me want to scream.

Anything vertical on a forearm. Anything that people pay a premium for because of brand. I am a tight a$$ so I can afford guns. There are a lot of good things out there that you don't have to give an arms for.

I don't like the long vertical grips on an AR. I like the stubby ones. The one I have only lets me put three fingers around it. My pinky hangs off.

I'm just the opposite, I hate the stubby ones, and use the regular size ones exclusively.  I also tried the AFG for a bit, but that didn't blow me away either.  Though I didn't get to try it on a rail longer than carbine length rail.

Painting guns... It should be a crime. biggrin.gif

Aww it's a tool man! That being said, that first mist of paint is hard to put down as you stare at a nice shiny black rifle!

Snobs at the gun range that have $15k+ custom built suppressed rifle with $4k S&B on top sit there and hate on your rifle in a conversation.

Blahh blahh... Had a Brand X and a Brand X in X caliber is a POS blahh blahh.

Seriously had that happen to me one day.

It's a great way to make friends. [emoji107]

MOST people I've seen at the range with super high dollar guns who are running their mouth had a hard time keeping their shots on the paper and not shooting up the target stands.  After all, a gun can only be as good as the person shooting it.

What bugs me?  I saw a laser for a Hi Point the other day.  Nothing wrong with Hi Points, but if all I could afford was a Hi Point then when I got the money to put a laser on it the Hi Point would be going bye bye for something better.  Never got the laser thing anyway, I've tried them just not my hing.

These days this recent influx of uneducated know it alls in the gun community bothers me more than any silly gun mod.  :Tangent: that's another thing that I really like about TGO, this community has so much good information to offer, hard to find in the gun world these days.

Home grown ARs with a emphasis on a list of components that were purchased and installed (woo hoo).  If a comment must be made, just state:  look at me I can follow a recipe to roll my own, that is all.  No need to shine your light to the world and your gifted AR assembly abilities!  If a list must be shared, only share "the list" when you are selling or trading, so as to stand behind your build if the next owner has a problem, otherwise I don't care, and don't want to hear it!  Any one with cash or credit, access to the internet, and somewhat be mechanically inclined can do the same, what makes your special.

Just load, pull the trigger, and move on!  No lip!

Now if you are forging, machining, stamping, and other manufacturing in your home garage, and your metallurgical analysis can prove superiority performance over OEM or other after market parts, and the cost value is worth the gap in the proven superiority, then by all means broadcast loudly from the rooftops, I will listen!
