Deer hunting thieves

Thieves , really low down thieves when they steal your bolts in your tree stand and replace them with sticks !

Look at this where they took out my quick release bolts and replaced them with sticks ! Good thing I saw this before I tried to climb it . I may have broke a bone or worse , my NECK !

I would put up a camera but I'm afraid they'd steal it too .

You may have already thought of this but it looks like you were set up to fall. Anti hunters or some one wants your spot. I have seen stand suports cut nearly in two knowing they would be used early before daylight. Take care out there.

This is some bull sh!$! I wouldn't care if they stole the camera as long as the 2nd camera you hid better caught the scumbag stealing it. As said multiple times above, I don't think it was because someone didn't know better. What if you'd let a kid climb up first and they fell and broke their neck? Not funny, and not an accident as far as I'm concerned. Glad you saw it!

Where was this stand located?  Private/public/leased land?  This looks like some of the crap that we used to put up with when we leased land in McNairy County.  The locals didn't like us because we were outsiders/from the city/didn't belong, etc.  As far as they were concerned, what was ours belonged to them as soon as we left.

They didn't want your pins....they don't want you there.

EXACTLY RIGHT!!!! They were out to hurt you for sure. I don't know if I would bother with cameras unless I was going to put bolts back in with locktite threads on taps so they would either have to have tools to take the bolts or take the stand. You might have a good chance of catching them then. Just be careful what ever you do.

Yep. Place a cheap (or better yet, broken) trail cam on it as a decoy with another one higher and well hidden to record the action. You could also dig a pit and cover it with small sticks and leaves to show your appreciation for their interest in your stand :) Theives suck

Wow...I've had plenty of stuff stollen out at one of my properties.  3 nice red gates, 2 game cameras, 1 turkey hen and kicked off trespassers...but that...that right there...is ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING!    I would be calling the Game Warden as soon as possible and let them know about it.

I agree that they may have intended to harm you but if they were, wouldn't they have used shorter sticks so it wouldn't be as obvious that it wasn't the normal pin?

I don't think they intended to do harm as much as discourage him from hunting that day. They probably hoped that he would see the sticks, not hunt, and go home without shooting Bambi. Harassing hunters is illegal, and I think that's what's going on.

+1 on calling local game warden and letting him know that someone is interfering with your legal hunting activities. It may prove beneficial if you catch them in the act next time.

hell the Game Warden might be into catching this person... this is excitement to them instead of riding around checking peoples tags... lil something different

This is my families land and its right in the middle of it. No where near a property line . So there shouldn't be any confusion on the theives side as to weather or not its on his side or ours. Just assholes.

That doesn't look like a joke. It looks like it was meant to hurt someone.

Exactly. That's a booby trap, and booby traps are illegal. I'd contact the game warden and set up a hidden camera somewhere.

When you replace the bolts, I'd check the straps real good too the first time up. They may have messed with it in other ways. Be careful each time going up Edited by Batman

I don't know if the missing parts were just pins or actual bolts but I'd be sure to replace them with bolts that are extra long to which I'd then use doubled up with nylon locking nuts so that "IF" whoever did this to you wants to try it again they will have to put forth lots of effort and time to accomplish their nasty deed....

I like the pungy-stick pit idea. "I have no idea how that got there, officer. Maybe they put it there as another trap for me and accidentally stepped on it?"

Calling a Game warden and having them come out and show them what they did is a good idea. The Game Warden might put trail cams up in hopes of catching the bad guys at their game. They could face a list of criminal offenses and a Game Warden would love to get credit for a bust like that. Figure you could lose your life with a stunt like that so attempted murder could even be a charge. I promise you I would not let this ride if it were me and neither would any of my sons or grandsons that hunt their own land and have ladder stands up..............jmho
