Wood Stove in Mobile Home

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a smaller wood heater to use on the weekends and have as a backup heater. I currently live in a mobile home. My insurance guy says it is doable as long as the heater is MH approved and installed by/inspected by a pro. I am going to build a brick and rock hearth. I love wood heat and wanted to wait til we build in a few years but want to have one now. Does anyone else have a stove in a mobile home?

Below is the stove I really like.

I know this response is not quite what your looking for but here goes. Have you considered a corn pellet stove? Much more efficient cleaner and more home owner insurance friendly. Might be worth considering.

Had one when I lived in Oregon.  It was in the living room and was about 3-4 feet from the wall (Don't know if that was required by federal or state law)  and sat on a 4'x4' piece of Durock.  Double lined chimney pipe and extended about 6 feet above the roof.  Also a Magic Heat unit on it will make a world of difference.

I have seen some of those but I have so much cut and seasoned wood it's running out my ears.

Pellet stoves worked much better than wood for my grandma's house, but you can go broke if you run out of bags and have to buy some during the winter.

Not sure I would recommend them to anyone who is physically able to deal with wood, especially if they have a stockpile of it

Me to mine is not cut yet on my list of things to do. Mine will be used. To add height to my berm along with some fill dirt.
