Got a budget in mind? $500 Delton vs $650 S&W M&P Sport vs $2200 LWRC vs nice build for around $850?

edit: I've even heard tale of an $800 Colt on here lately. Edited by BigK

Exactly what I was gonna recommend! Glad you're getting one Dave

Out of stock there, but Bud's online had last price of $562. Wow.

DANG! Dave, That's "build" price for an assembled one. And like OS said, you could be the first TGO'er to have one

That's a good deal for pretty much any functioning AR but a great deal for one coming from a reputable company! Dave it will be tough to beat this for a first AR. Put a decent free float handguard on it and you're good to go brother!

Thanks for the info guys. $1,000 is my top dollar. That Ruger AR-556 looks mighty fine! I'll have to look for one.

I'm reading about things called "Gas Impingement" and "Direct Impingement". I'm trying to find an explanation of these.

Ok got it. "Gas Piston" or "Direct Impingement". This is getting a tad complicated with so much candy to choose from!

Both will work; one just costs more. I'd go with that Ruger. My goodness what a good deal. That would have been an awesome deal 20 years ago. This grace period of dirt poor AR prices couldn't possibly last for long.

Or something like this. Free floats may be great, but they are pricey and require a bit of knowlege about working on ARs (which isn't really hard once you learn the platform). But for your first AR, I'd recommend KISS until you go to the range a few times, then start looking into free floats, adjustable gas blocks, FCG modifications or upgrades, etc., etc.

This platform can get expensive fast Dave, so I strongly recommend trying a few ARs out before you buy to see what you like. Nonetheless, for a basic starter that's already built, that Ruger OS posted looks as good as any and at a great price.

If ya didn't notice yet, he already had jumped on that suggestion:

So y'all know, the LGS I got it from (I've done a lot of business there) "Out the Door" with my LE discount, TICS, Tax and a box of ammo was $625  I don't feel I could have done better. Thanks for all the info, and to OS for sending me that direction!
