New to the forum

Howdy all. We have been in the Memphis area (Arlington) for about 10 years. With all the craziness going on here, we decided to pick up a shotgun and a pistol for home/family protection. Got a Remington 870 Express 20ga Youth model so me or my wife can grab it if needed and a full size S&W M&P 22 to train up on.

 

I am signed up for the carry class in November. I scheduled it a month ago - they are that backed up (some seriously scary stuff going on in Memphis right now). 

 

I am doing 150-200 rounds at the range when I can (Range USA - GREAT place) but I have limited ammo stores so I am going easy for now. I snatch a box or two at Academy in Collierville every now and then. That is the only place I have found that still sells at retail prices.

 

I grew up hunting but this is my first time using/owning a handgun so I thought I would learn on something with cheap ammo. I am now finding that cheap ammo doesn't mean much if you can't buy it. I know you can get it online but for what it costs there, I should have just gotten the 9 or 40. I do like the M&P though...great feel so going to the 9 or 40 should be an easy move. I am a big guy so I think I can carry the full size but might look at the Shield too when I am ready to move up.

 

At any rate...I find I learn a lot from just talking to people at the gun shops so thought this would be a good place to learn and ask question. Glad to have found this forum.

Welcome to the forum. You can probably get most of your questions answered here in a better fashion than most gun shops.
