I love that you have that bruiser into the back of an SUV! My wife would kill me if I folded our's rear seats down and started hauling my deer in it!

Mine too, but sloooooowly! HA HA I've never put on in an suv but I did put a 6 pointer on top of my Explorer and drove all the way through downtown Nashville with it to the processors. Got some thumbs up and some....well, you get the picture. BUT, you couldn't wipe the grin off my face!

My wife suggested that I have one mounted and then add it as a hood ornament on my truck... I liked the idea for the simple fact that I feel like it would rub sand in the crotch of the bleeding heart liberals!

Luke: I took a good buddy of mine hunting in order to get him a doe.  We get settled into the stand by 2:30pm and at 2:31 a lone button buck comes out into the 4.5acre clover plot we were hunting over.  We watched him for a minute or two and then his twin sister came out.  Then at 2:32 big momma walks out.  So I told my buddy, there is your deer if you want to take her.  He said that he wasn't expecting to get so much action within 60 seconds of settling in the stand and he sorta wanted to wait for a bit so it actually feels like "hunting", LOL.  So we waited a a few more minutes, big momma kept looking back in the woods but seemed more/less unconcerned with what was going on as she and her babies kept munching away on clover.  Well a few more minutes pass by and my buddy has the binoculars going and then says he sees a buck...a big buck.  Now you know plenty of people who hunt, and there are 2 types of people out there who can communicate completely opposite things when seeing a "big buck".  There are the people who say they saw a big buck...and its actually big, and there are people who say they saw a big buck and its actually not.  Well, my buddy falls into the former.  When he said it was big...I knew he meant it.  So I throw my binoculars up and sure enough, the bruiser was just inside the wood line, eating something.  Wasn't chasing the doe(s) but was sticking by to them closely.  He eventually came out and became broadside.  Then i knew this was a shooter buck consistent w/ the goals we have for our property.  So I asked my buddy if it was ok if I shot him, and he said absolutely!  (good friend I got there right?)  So I shoulder the trusty Remington 700 .270 and send a 130gr winchester soft point down to him.  When I hit him, he kicked his back legs up as high as the Eiffel Tower and ran into the woods with his head low.  The next 45 minutes seemed like an eternity.  I shot that deer at 2:45 and we got out of the stand at 3:30 to look for him.  He didn't leave much of a blood trail but it was enough to get to him.  He didn't run 40 yards into the woods.   Such an awesome experience on such a nice deer.  He is a trophy in my book.

Ruger/Luke: So yeah, thats my Suburban...or as I like to call it, my War Wagon. I have a Weathertech Mat in the back there that he is laying on (3rd row seat has been removed to create space for my Doberman and Great Dane as well as Monster Bucks).  I got a little blood outside of the Weathertech but hey, the "U" in SUV means utility and my SUV has never been happier than having a big ole' 10 point in the back.  I mean, it drove straighter, got the gas milage of a prius, and instantly had a new coat of wax on it thats how happy my War Wagon was.  Well, not really any of that is true, but I'd imagine if that old truck had feelings, he would be pretty happy he was being used.

I have a cousin that bought a new Cherokee in the late 90s as a hunting vehicle to keep in TN. He lives in FL and his mom lives here. He calls the blood stains in the carpet memorabilia. That is great Slappy.

Got laid off yesterday.  Going to spend a few days getting some projects done around the house to make the wife happy and then I'm going to head out for about a week of hunting!

Sorry to hear about the lay off especially this time of year. Hopefully York week of hunting will be fruitful.

Thanks, we will be fine.  I've always stashed money away in case something like this happens and all of our Christmas shopping is done.  I just see it as an opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons!

I hope everyone that is able to hunt this morning didn't let the rain scare them off. I'm having to work in Gallatin today so no hunting for me but I've only made it from out at my house into Murfreesboro and have seen deer in 9 different spots so far and 2 were a buck chasing doe around fields and another was a doe followed by a buck jumping across the road in front of me, the rest have just been doe. They're moving and making me wish I wasn't working.

I wasnt feeling well last night, woke up at 4am and could barely open my eyes to shut off the alarm. I hit snooze and never woke back up....

Had to work today too Luke, I feel your pain. But leaving work now to shower and head out for the evening

I'm still in Gallatin unfortunately. Most of the guys I'm working with today Are hunters so at least I'm not the only one hating life right now (;
Good luck to everyone out there this evening, this cooler air ought to get them stirring.

I wasn't hunting but it was windy where I was as well. Tomorrow morning is looking good though but Weather.com is still calling for between 9-11mph wind during morning hunting hours so? I won't make it out until after church when Maroonandwhite gets out there after church. I think the rut has pretty well fizzled out on that property but oddly enough it still seems strong hear around my house.

Nice deer to all!! Those bucks are fantastic! I processed Omega's doe's for him, and they weren't too shabby either!

Had a fierce wind but it has died down. No deer yet but just missed a coyote. 120 yards, still in the field, not sure how I pulled that shot.

Hunted here 3 years and thats the first coyote I have seen. Edited by jonathon1289

The fierce wind was probably making your tree sway all around... Right 😏

Well, it appears that yesterday's activities were more than my body wanted to overcome this morning and the alarm got turned off. Hard to kill a deer when you're in bed, but dang I was wore out! Good luck to those who made it out.

I wish. But I have to take credit for missing the shot. I didn't pay attention when I loaded up this morning.

I had 2 magazines in my pouch, and instead of grabbing the 65gr Sierra Gamekings I grabbed the mag with 64gr Nosler Bonded Solid Base. These bullets shoot high left at 100 yards with my rifle- intended to use them in my carbine when I hunt the ridge line as they shoot dead on with my carbine.

I checked after missing the coyote. So I knew to adjust when shot the doe.

I have taken 2 deer now with an AR in 5.56. I am not sure that I will take another, plan to switch back to my 30-06 for rest of this season.

The AR is fun to shoot and easier to handle in the stand. But both deer I have shot left no blood. Both fell within sight so trailing these two was not a concern. But what if the next one runs?

Both bullets expanded well (based on the damage, not recovered) and passed through the animal. But no blood trail. I don't want to take any chances on losing one so plan to finish out the season with the 30-06 and next year will have my 6.8 finished and hunt with it. Edited by jonathon1289
