I haven't read the book. I will definitely see the movie.

I may wait and watch the movie first. To be honest after reading Lone Survivor, I was disappointed by the movie.

I read the book several times and that scene is NOT in the book.

If this is representative of what the rest of the movie is like ... it will be disappointing.

The book stands well on its own merits, creative artistic license is not helping.

I quite reading books many years ago and they going to the movie expecting to see anything even remotely close to the book. Now as I have gotten so old that my eyes are an issue and they don't print books In this size type  I just go see the movie or maybe not even both till in comes out on video and buy it.   One thing I will tell you about Eastwood's directing. He holds nothing back in a movie so if that piece of video was not in the book it was probably omitted from the book before publishing and Eastwood thought it should have not been and put it in. WOW sometimes being old ain't so bad. i just went and looked at the book and found out they make them in audio so might get to do both anyway......................

I thought Lone Survivor the movie was great, checked out the book from the library two weeks ago..... Not a fan. I know Seals walk the walk, and I'm sure
They are all fairly cocky, but man, it was just unreadable.

American Sniper looks like it will be excellent.

Look at getting a kindle or kindle app for your iPhone or droid, you can make the size of the print any size you want.

I like reading these books and even watch the movies, but some books also take creative license so I try and take them with a grain of salt too.  When I watch a movie "based on a true story/event" I have the habit of looking for the story it is based on to compare; most times the true story is more fascinating, but I still enjoy the movies.

Thanks Omega but I don't read enough to invest in any of this new fancy stuff out for sale these days. I don't have an Iphone or droid. I use a small flip phone to make and receive calls and can text on it if I choose to which is very seldom. Yea, I am kinda old fashion, let me re phrase that. I am really old fashion but I guess most of that comes with being old also. I bought the video Lone Survivor and watched it and then passed it through the family and have no clue who as it now....... .

I will buy American Sniper and after watching it I will send it through the family so everyone gets to see it. I might by the audio version of the American Sniper and I might not. I hate it when one ruins the other. I read a lead into the the audio version of the book and it begins with Chris talking about a woman and a young boy coming out of a door as Marines are advancing into that area and he sees a hand grenade  and he is ordered to shoot her and that was as far as the into went so maybe it was not in the hard book version but it was in the audio version.. Don't know how I will do it yet, just wing it I guess...........jmho

I read the book as well and thought that scene was in the very beginning of the book. First chapter? He shot the grenade, killing the woman, right?

Yea, that is how the audio version began. He said he was not yet a classified sniper but the CO left him in charge of the rifle while he was taking a break. He was ordered to fire and hesitated at first but was ordered to SHOOT and he fired at the same instant she dropped the grenade. I'm not sure exactly how it read but he either shot her or the grenade but either way she was dead. I think he shot both.

Guys, regarding the printed or audio versions, be sure to check with your local library first unless you want to keep the copy for yourself. My library had both so I took advantage of my tax dollars at work.

You really might want to consider getting a Kindle, as you can make the type THIS SIZE if you wish . . .

Thanks guys. I might look into it. Can't remember the last time I read anything that didn't come on a computer or a medicine bottle and have to use a magnify glass with many medicine bottles. I had to make the NRA quit sending me magazines like Rifleman because I had piles of them and never read them. I like to have never convinced them I didn't want something free. I would have gave them away but everyone I know is an NRA member and get them too..............

I've read the book.  I believe that scene is at the very first part of it as was stated previously by another member.

I can't wait to see this.

The other good thing about a kindle fire or android tablet is you can get on here and other forums as well.  You can also get the NRA mags online, much better than print because of the interactive links to more info/stories.  Oh, and yes you get to zoom in too.

I just wonder if it will say "Based on true events" or "Based on mostly true events"........

Either way I'll most likely go see it. I like how Eastwood makes movies.

Looks like it might be a good movie. Hopefully they will do Kyle's story justice, hard to do in a 2 hour slot...

Haven't been to a theater in over 10 years.  May have to go check this one out though.  Looks pretty good.  Do they serve beer in theaters yet?  I always thought that they should.

I think the theater at Opry Mills serves beer.
