Stuck while cycling

Recommended Posts

Loaded my first .223/5.56 rounds tonight. The OAL was fine and it stripped from the mag fine to just cycle though the rifle. I did not fire them. There were a few that chambered but were really hard to cycle out of the chamber. They seems to be the regular .223 cases and not the LC cases. Are the cases bad? Ideas? Up to this point it's only been factory ammo though this AR and it's been flawless.

Whew...thought I was going to see something like this based upon the OP topic:

Is your sizing die adjusted to where it touches the shellholder?

I expect you aren't pushing the shoulders back quite enough when resizing.

I sized them a long time ago and they sat. Not sure. I will be sure to check this again when I resize. I was pretty meticulous and read and asked about this before I sized them.

It sounds like your not pushing the shoulders back far enough. PM me if you need a little help figuring out how to bump shoulders without a comparator gauge.

I had that issue once. I Quickly identified that I wasn't pushing the shoulders back enough just like others have said. I colored the case with a dry erase marker and it confirmed what others said.

If I wasn't pushing the shoulders back far enough, would it make marks on the shoulders?

Not necessarily. The shoulder on the brass and on the throat of the barrel are both smooth (so no marks) and just not seating together well. As stated ^^^^^bump that neck back and you should be fine. As you can tell,,,,,,,,your not the only one who has had this problem

Wanted to follow up on this. Thank you for the help. Looks like I've nipped this problem in the bud. To make sure I'm not going to far the other way, I am taking the advice and getting the headspace and comparator gauges.
