Anyone run a black rear sight on you CCW?

I just purchased a set of Ameriglo Protector sights (Front sight tritium, rear sight black) and am wondering if anyone else carries with this type of setup. As I've found with anything online some praise it and some think it's stupid. Myself I have always liked their i-dot sights but never found myself paying much attention to the rear small dot. I should have them in tomorrow so hopefully I like them!

I have Ashley Big Dot's on on my SIG - tritium front and an unlighted express rear.  If I'm focusing on the front sight, I barely notice the rear.

That's my thought. If it isn't there I can't try to focus on it. I have so much trouble focusing on the front sight. I'm going to spend some of my vacation next week trying to remedy that. I have always used the sharp target blurry sight picture method.

If I am going to run illuminated sights the only sight that is illuminated is the front. Having the front and rear the same color would be confusing to me. But to be honest you should have a flash light to identify your target before firing at it.

I have XS Big Dots on my Glock 17 & 26. I purchased the non-illuminated rear for the 26 (as they were $20.00 cheaper) and cannot appreciate any difference. I'll be putting the same on my 19.

I have black rear (Novak lo-mount) on my 1911.

Like others, I use a sharpie to blacken the rear sights with the exception of Trijicon's...which I am replacing with the Big Dots.

btw...I've shot Brasil's 10-8's and they are EXCELLENT sights!

I like the idea of a fiber optic front but not on a CCW. I've been through two of the Williams Firesights on other guns from the rod breaking. I know some manufacturers probably encase them better but I just don't want to chance it.

I have new full night sights front and rear. I haven't practiced in low light yet. I am wondering in low light how the elevation would be affected without the rear lit?

Wide-Notch Black rear sights on all of my handguns for carry and competition handguns.

Fronts vary - - -  Tritium, FO, Gold.

Didn't realize until just now but the white ring around my front tritium vial is photo-luminescent. That bad boy is hard to miss in the dark if it happens to be charged. Can't see an instance where it would ever be charged when I needed it but cool anyways.

if you don't mind me asking, where did you find the protector sights?

i am looking for tritium sights, but prefer the blacked out rear sights. had a set of 10-8 fiber optic sights that i really liked, but they never seem to have the tritium in stock.

I run a set of ameriglo hackathorns. It's a tritium front with an orange luminescent ring and a plain rear

I've got 2 sets of ameriglo Pro I-dots on my G19's, they have a little tritium dot in the center of the rear - really good setup. I like the wide rear notch (although maybe a tad too wide for some longer distance stuff), very fast and easy to acquire front notch with the big yellow/orange ring around the tritium vial. The rear dot is hardly noticeable (except in low light when it glows) and the front orange/yellow ring on the front draws your eyes very well to the front sight. I've found the rear tritium dot is nice to have for a reference point for front/rear alignment in low light.

But the rear dot isn't a deal breaker for me. I'd prefer it if I can get it, but I could make do without it. I'd like to try some of amirglo's other setups (with the goal of finding a little tighter rear notch/front sight width) and a lot of them don't have the rear tritium dot,

My Dawson Precision set has a Black rear "target" sight and a fiber optic front. The fiber rod is shrouded pretty well and I've not had any problems out of it to speak of. I change it out from time to time just to freshen it up but I've not had one break or crack yet. I won't go so far as to say that it's the ideal carry gun setup but I use this pistol for a bit of everything. When I get a Shield or some other dedicated carry gun I will install tritium front and probably stick with a black rear.

I have many guns with a black rear and white front.  Works great for me, though my CCW has glow in the dark dots and I am not about to sharpie over those.
