Stop the visas and stop the flights going in and out of that part of the world until that disease settles down.  Also don't let US bound flights in say London accept passengers and baggage who are coming back from that part of the world.  If anyone somehow does make it here from that part of the world, put them in medical quaratine until cleared.

This is pure common sense but I don't think our government has much common sense.  This is an awful disease that simple precautions could have been taken months ago.

My thoughts exactly. If I'm not mistaken, that's the same way someone can catch the cold or flu.

Yes and no.
My understanding is that this (Zaire strain) strain is virulent in the body fluid. Example- you put body fluid of a flu patient under the scope and you see 50-70% pathogenesis.
Throw this strain under there and you have closer to 100%.
There is another strain that is primate to primate and is currently asymptomatic in primates (a Phillapine importer reportedly imported, on two different occasions, animals to Africa with the disease) that is airborne.
Thus the fear of it mutating. There has been no proof that it will mutate to airborne but it has "evolved" steadily.

I'm mobile currently. I will try and dredge up some links to this stuff when I get a chance. Maybe this will give those interested some google hits until then.

I have not read any of this thread yet.  Gonna save it for when I have time.

This stuff is scary.

I don't want our survivor's to read about the Ebola Outbreak of 2015 in their history books like I read about the black plague in some history class of mine.

African-American plague, surely.

oh tnguy, it's already turned into a racial/slavery debate.  Anderson Cooper was interviewing some author last night and he said this:

QUAMMEN:  You can't isolate neighborhoods; you can't isolate nations.  It doesn't work.  And people talk about, "Well, we shouldn't allow any flights from Liberia."  I mean, we in America, how dare we turn our backs on Liberia? Given the fact that this is a country that was founded in the 1820s, 1830s because of American slavery, we have a responsibility to stay connected with them and help them see this through.

So the Ebola issue in Liberia is our fault because of slavery.

And the ebola issue in this country is the NRA's fault:

Here's what Nigeria says about how it is spread (#6 :hiding: )

You'll have to wear tinfoil glasses if you read this article, but it has some interesting stuff concerning whether or not it's airborne.

I went down a rabbit hole earlier after clicking a conspiracy theory link regarding Ebola. While west-Africans may be ignorant due to superstitions and lack of education, Americans can be just plain stupid with the level of access to information that we have. There is a lot of misinformation being circulated right now by people looking to profit off this scare... a lot of "don't trust the government; buy my book to learn the REAL secrets to surviving the Ebola outbreak." Needless to say, my fellow Americans are eating this up, because they never hesitate to turn a crisis into something that fits their narrative, whether it be left/right/straight lunatic. Excellent post TMF.

Reliable information is out there, but way too many people are just too darn lazy to search it out...it does require some effort.

And lazy, frightened, "sheeple" are easy pickings for the profiteers.

I thought the below guidelines were helpful as well...Especially #5...  but maybe I'm biased...
